What an amazing and exciting book! Anytime a missing masterpiece is found or rediscovered, the story promises to be interesting. This one was a blockbuster! I really like how the book was written, the history of Caravaggio, the painting that disappeared into obscurity, those who had been researching the provenance and what errors had been made in history, and the museum curator who happened on the real thing, all woven together, unfolding simultaneously. It really worked. It was fascinating and breathtaking.
I once saw a Caravaggio painting in Florence, in the Uffizi gallery. but wish I had understood how rare they are. This book makes me glad I had at least seen it. I’d appreciate it a lot more after this book.
