À propos de cet audio

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nelson DeMille returns with a “genuinely thrilling” (The New York Times) suspense novel featuring his most popular character, former NYPD homicide detective John Corey, called out of retirement to investigate a string of grisly murders—inspired by the actual Gilgo Beach murders.

In his #1 New York Times bestseller Plum Island, Nelson DeMille introduced listeners to NYPD Homicide Detective John Corey, who we first met on the back porch of his uncle’s waterfront mansion on Long Island, recovering from wounds incurred in the line of duty.

Six novels later, The Maze finds Corey on the same porch, having survived new law enforcement roles and romantic relationships—wiser and more sarcastic than ever. Corey is restless and looking for action, so when his former lover Detective Beth Penrose appears with a job offer, Corey has to once again make some decisions about his career—and about reuniting with Beth.

Inspired by the real-life Gilgo Beach murders, The Maze takes us on a dangerous hunt for an apparent serial killer who has murdered nine—and maybe more—sex workers and hidden their bodies in the thick undergrowth on a lonely stretch of beach.

As Corey digs deeper into this case, he comes to suspect that the failure of the local police to solve this sensational mystery may not be a result of their incompetence—it may be something else. Something more sinister.

Featuring John Corey’s politically incorrect humor and brilliant, unorthodox investigative skills, The Maze “finally gives DeMille’s listeners the John Corey fix they’ve been craving,” along with the shocking plot twists that are the trademark of the bestselling author Nelson DeMille, “the master of smart, entertaining suspense” (Bookreporter).

Great narration and intriguing story. Highly recommend…… DeMille doesn’t disappoint - again. If you like DeMilles - you’ll enjoy this novel.

Great novel. Unforgettable characters combined with a great storyline made for a very good read.

Corey gets it done

The narrator did his best but I do not remember John Corey being quite so racist and misogynistic. The plotting was clumsy and the characters wooden.

Not his best

Inane story wrapped in cheap sex and "cute" quips. It's about 14 hours too long.

Stuggle to get through this book

This book took forever to get moving and seemed like it was over shortly after it got going. Some clever grade 10 sex humor. Seems like author was pressured to hand something in and he was lacking a story.

disappointing book in good series

I used to love John Corey. I don’t remember him being so incredibly oppressed with his boy parts before. It was distracting from the rest of the story.

Not the best John Corey….

I have read all of his books but this one appears to be written by someone else. Demille repeats himself over and over again as if the reader is incapable of going from point A to point B. We now see John Corey talking constantly about oral sex and hopping from one relationship to another. The character consistently veers off into sexual encounters leaving the reader confused as to what difference this makes to the story. Language is over the top and now shows Corey to be a womanizer looking for his next sexual conquest over and over again. how many times can an author talk about removing his penis from his pants and having a woman on her knees in front of him.

John is no longer a lovable character. in conversation John says "okay" to his female partner about 50 times. Conversation is boring and repetitive . this book was a huge disappointment.

big disappointment

I’m a massive Nelson DeMille fan but this book was weak from the beginning. No real twist or intense moments, just dull from start to finish — The voice was incredible though! it’s exactly like how I imagine John Corey to sound.

Great Voice , Bad Story

I have read every book DeMille has written. I’ve enjoyed them all, particularly the John Corey books, but this one is ridiculous. I agree with other readers, he’s obsessed with his nether regions. Not the John Corey I have found endearing, funny and so politically incorrect in the past books. I muddled through it and enjoyed Scott Brick’s reading so much as always. Will try the Deserter next. Let’s get with it Nelson.

His worst book ever.
