À propos de cet audio
A profound, epic thriller set in Bombay—a standalone novel and a sequel to the international bestseller Shantaram.
The first glimpse of the sea on Marine Drive filled my heart, if not my head. I turned away from the red shadow. I stopped thinking of that pyramid of killers, and Sanjay's improvidence. I stopped thinking about my own part in the madness. And I rode, with my friends, into the end of everything.
Shantaram introduced millions of people to a cast of unforgettable characters through Lin, an Australian fugitive, working as a passport forger for a branch of the Bombay mafia. In The Mountain Shadow, the long-awaited sequel, Lin must find his way in a Bombay run by a different generation of mafia dons, playing by a different set of rules.
It has been two years since the events in Shantaram, and since Lin lost two people he had come to love: his father figure, Khaderbhai, and his soul mate, Karla, married to a handsome Indian media tycoon. Lin returns from a smuggling trip to a city that seems to have changed too much, too soon. Many of his old friends are long gone, the new mafia leadership has become entangled in increasingly violent and dangerous intrigues, and a fabled holy man challenges everything that Lin thought he'd learned about love and life. But Lin can't leave the Island City: Karla, and a fatal promise, won't let him go.
Fans of Vikram Seth, John Irving and David Mitchell will love Shantaram and The Mountain Shadow.

Not nearly as good as Shantaram

For my taste and listening pleasure, it waxes on way too philosophical nearly constantly. It's become so that I am just thrilled when there is some actual action as opposed to word play and truthfully, if it wasn't for the impeccable narration skills of Humphrey Bower, I would not finish it. As it is, for the first time in my extensive listening experience, I actually forwarded through a lot of the constant philosophical debating and have become just annoyed with aphorisms. Is there no end to them? I cannot imagine living and conversing that way so endlessly. It tires me to listen to it.
I suppose if your goal in audible books is to highly concentrate on every word and phrase and to have ideals challenged and debated endlessly, then this will satisfy you. For myself, the story here just seems muddled and secondary to Carla constantly trying to prove she is the most innovative thinker in every room at all times. It gets tiresome and her character got so annoying to me that I wanted Lin to kick her to the curb a few times.
So disappointing.
I WANTED to love this so badly, but...

The constant play on words distracts, the story is disjointed, and the characters lost their charm.
Referring to Carla’s eyes as the ‘queens’ seemed a poor metaphor the first time, but just felt annoying the tenth time.
Shantaram is one of my all time favourite books so I was disappointed with this follow up.
I feel bad criticizing an amazing author.
Couldn’t finish this one. Just listen to Shantaram is again.
