I listened to this one on audio, beautifully narrated by Carly Robins and Brandon Francis. It’s a quick and cheerful listen that was the perfect cozy companion while cleaning or prepping for family gatherings during the holidays.
This story isn’t overly heavy, it’s a cute little second chance, small-town, holiday romance and it honestly has that perfect Hallmark-Christmas-spice energy (you know what I mean).
The characters were adorable, though I did find Blair a bit too naive at times considering she was described as strong and independent. Still, I respected her for leaving small-town life behind in order to chase her dreams in the big city. Love is beautiful, but it shouldn’t be the only defining factor in life so seeing her prioritize growth and independence made me root for her.
That said, I did raise an eyebrow at how unprofessionally she interacted with her clients and while she’s written as confident and hardworking, her style might’ve scared off some real-life customers. Especially as I also work with clients and behaviour like hers would absolutely not fly with our clients. So that part didn’t quite hit the mark for me. But this is a story so I let it slide.
What did absolutely win me over though? Blair’s love of lists! Lists, sublists, lists of lists... this girl gets me. I have at least a dozen just book-related lists at any given time, and do I follow them? Absolutely not. But do they bring me joy? 100%. So that little quirk of hers made me feel less alone in the world of lists loving dorks.
There’s a bit of spice between the two characters near the end because let’s be honest, holiday romances almost always end with an HEA. But don’t be fooled into thinking that’s the only scorching spice you’ll get as the story is filled with plenty of thoughts, memories, and fantasies long before the final chapters. So nope, this one’s definitely not a closed-door romance.
And the epilogue? Oh it was delightfully quirky and had me cackling. Maybe not the most believable ending but with Blair's character, I'm not surprised.
All in all, this was a fun feel-good holiday romance that gave me exactly what one needs for the holidays; festive, humor, and a guaranteed HEA.
