 Edith Hahn was an outspoken young woman in Vienna when the Gestapo forced her into a ghetto and then into a slave labor camp. When she returned home months later, she knew she would become a hunted woman, so she went underground.

She emerged in Munich as "Grete Denner". There she met Werner Vetter, a Nazi Party member who fell in love with her. Despite Edith's protests and even her eventual confession that she was Jewish, he married her and kept her identity secret.

This book provides an important story of tenacity, survival and grit that we don’t often hear. It’s important to fully understand all aspects of survival despite the hands of the Nazi efforts to exterminate us all.
Victimization and survival come in many forms. We can’t forget the lessons they teach us.

I have read a considerable number novels set during the holocaust and this is simply one of the best I have read. This true life memoir reads like a novel but is authentic and moving. The narrator is excellent and you feel like you are sitting and hearing this story first hand. I would highly recommend this audible book.
