Description

Three women who seemingly have nothing in common find that they're involved with the same man in this smart new rom-com by Beth O'Leary, best-selling author of The Flatshare.

Siobhan is a quick-tempered life coach with way too much on her plate. Miranda is a tree surgeon used to being treated as just one of the guys on the job. Jane is a soft-spoken volunteer for the local charity shop with zero sense of self-worth.

These three women are strangers who have only one thing in common: They’ve all been stood up on the same day, the very worst day to be stood up—Valentine’s Day. And, unbeknownst to them, they’ve all been stood up by the same man.

Once they've each forgiven him for standing them up, they are all in serious danger of falling in love with a man who may have not just one or two but three women on the go....

Is there more to him than meets the eye? Where was he on Valentine’s Day? And will they each untangle the truth before they all get their hearts broken?

Ce que les critiques en disent

"Sweepingly romantic, bursting with character, and so, so clever I gasped out loud. Many writers make you feel good, but O'Leary also makes you think." (Gillian McAllister, author of That Night)

“Beth O’Leary is that rare, one-in-a-million talent who can make you laugh, swoon, cry, and ache all in the same book, and The No-Show is her most moving yet. O’Leary’s wit, charm, and heart are on full, fantastic display in this cozy, surprising, and deeply satisfying novel. I couldn’t possibly love it more.” (Emily Henry, New York Times best-selling author of Beach Read and People We Meet on Vacation)

"Achingly clever." (Sophie Cousens, New York Times best-selling author of I Just Haven't Met You Yet)

Different approach

As I'm not a real fan of the romance genreok on audible, and that may have helped. The book follows three very different women who are all involved with the same man. Siobhan is a quick thinking lifestyle coach and her back story, as it is revealed, we learn leaves her very vulnerable and afraid to let herself fall for someone. Miranda is a tree surgeon, and her job takes her up in the air to the tops of trees. Miranda also has a backstory, and handles her disappointments and search for a soul mate by her job. Jane is a severely damaged young woman who is under-employed at a charity shop and she is trying to put her life back together again after a traumatic breakup with undertones of coercion and assault. Each of the women really don't don't the man that they are involved with, but a single traumatic incident brings everything to light. Each woman eventually finds their soul-mate and things all fall into place at last. I did enjoy this story.

Did not see that coming

Reading through the description, you think this will be the type of book you can predict the ending to, but the way the author connects all the dots…I can honestly say I would not have come to that conclusion.

I would definitely recommend this book. There’s humour, a range of emotions, and thought behind a plot that tugs at your heartstrings.

The narration was pretty bang-on and having a different voice for each main character helped following each change of point of view.

Not the storyline I was expecting

It's hard to review this title without spoilers. I liked that there were four different narrators, one for each character's perspective. I found the characters interesting, but since the book was divided into three different storylines (one from each woman's perspective), I never really got into any one person's story. Some of the events were funny, but overall the storylines were fairly heavy. It is not a lighthearted romance. It's a book about the challenges of being in a romantic relationship- or even having a friendship- when you've been hurt before.

***Spoiler Below***

One of the main characters dies. I could see it coming, but it was still really sad, and I'm not sure I would have listened to the book when I did if I had known there would be an "on page" death.

Not My Favourite Beth O’Leary Novel

That would be The Flatshare, with The Switch being a close second. I guess I spent a lot of it not liking when Joseph came around that until the big twist, I just wanted to finish the book and move on. That’s why I didn’t like the story as much.

Surprisingly heartwarming

Lovely easy listening. Good performances and interesting story line. Not too demanding but still felt it was worth listening to.
