À propos de cet audio

More than three million acres of dense woodlands make up the North Maine Woods. There are no major towns. No public roads. Nothing but forest for as far as the eye can see.

When two marines and their corpsman reunite after a decade apart, they find themselves caught up in the mystery of their former squad leader’s disappearance. With little more to go on than a handful of disturbing charcoal sketches and the whispers of a local legend, they plunge into the depths of one of America’s last truly wild places.

But the trees themselves begin to whisper dark secrets. Secrets of trafficking and violence. Of rotten science and blood. Of something else that lurks in the shadows of the pines—something ancient, savage, and hungry.

Douglas Hoover has a gift for writing, this novel pulls you in and doesn’t even let you go after the last word is read… you take the story with you and remember it and think about things long after it’s finished - for me that is the mark of a great author.

This book is sad & raw & terrifying & so so real that it made me want to google if it was ‘based on real life events’.

As a side note, I like that he has a message for his fellow veterans in his books with a link to the mental health help line. Suicide is far too prevalent amongst our discharged soldiers and they deserve more.

Thank you for your service Mr Hoover.

I’m going now to get every single book he has written so that I can read them as well.

Memorable read that I couldn’t put down
