Description

Call it "Zen and the Art of Farming" or a "Little Green Book", Masanobu Fukuoka's manifesto about farming, eating, and the limits of human knowledge presents a radical challenge to the global systems we rely on for our food. At the same time, it is a spiritual memoir of a man whose innovative system of cultivating the earth reflects a deep faith in the wholeness and balance of the natural world. As Wendell Berry writes in his preface, the book "is valuable to us because it is at once practical and philosophical. It is an inspiring, necessary book about agriculture because it is not just about agriculture."

Trained as a scientist, Fukuoka rejected both modern agribusiness and centuries of agricultural practice, deciding instead that the best forms of cultivation mirror nature's own laws. Over the next three decades, he perfected his so-called "do-nothing" technique: commonsense, sustainable practices that all but eliminate the use of pesticides, fertilizer, tillage, and, perhaps, most significantly, wasteful effort.

Whether you're a guerrilla gardener or a kitchen gardener, dedicated to slow food or simply looking to live a healthier life, you will find something here - you may even be moved to start a revolution of your own.

So enjoyable. Really gets the gears turning

Almost 50 years later and we still have learned nothing. The author's methods are so simple and unconfusing that it blows my mind that we are still working against nature as opposed to with.

Some great little philosophical tidbits in there as well. I dream of the simple life this man lived. Great read highly recommended

A short and sweet intro to regenerative farming

One of the first and best books on sustainable agriculture. It's a well written and comprehensive look at the wisdom of Masanobu Fukuoka. Strongly recommended introductory reading for anyone interested in permaculture and sustainable agricultural practices. #Audible1

Fukuoka Hits a Home-Run.

The third book that Masanobu Fukuoka has written is a landmark book and explains the natural way of Farming in detail. Back in 1984 I read his first book, then the second book called “The Natural Way Of Farming”, in 1989. Then “The One-Straw Revolution” in 2018, which is one of the “do-nothing” way of Farming books. It is a simply excellent book and is a distillation of his over 50 years of experience upon trial and error methods, which shows how to grow a multitude of edible plants in season and with Nature, not against it. He has transformed clay soil into rich soil, which gets better each year using a no-till method. The way to do it is in tune with Nature and is very simple to do. A 5-star Landmark book You are compelled to listen to it many times. Simply Outstanding.

Life saving wisdom.

Everyone should listen to and or read this book.
Even if one disagrees with some of the basic premises (I do not) many of Sensei Fukuoka San's teachings will still be beneficial to most thoughtful listeners and readers...

Partly good

..partly mumbo-jumbo. The first part is the most useful. Later, the author gets off into the weeds of make-believe philosophy.

Love Plants and the Earth? Read This

This is my number one most highly recommended book. As a horticulturist I probably find myself referencing or talking about this book almost every single day. Masanobu Fukuoka has a deep knowledge grown through years of determined and gracious struggle. His efforts have born knowledge that is deeply important to continue to teach to every generation. It is a simplistic, natural, high effort, high reward type of stewardship of our lands that may come off as common sense but through reading this book you will realize there is nothing common about it.

So amazed how "One can listen but not hear a book"

I am walking on my own path of being a Artist and yet I am the only one I know that is living just as Happy as everyone of my plants in my garden and all I do is wash dishes for work and sing while I Wash and Garden.

Enlightening!

Nobody in this modern world like Masanobu has described his journey to disengage from modernization and find his way to reconnect with our humanity as a part of the ONE breathing CREATION.
