À propos de cet audio

The reason for this book: to bring to us a totally new beginning for the body of Christ. Gene Edwards challenges the long-held evangelical ideal of restoring a so-called "New Testament church" by reconstructing its biblical elements. Edwards argues that the early churches described in the New Testament were not institutional models to replicate but organic, living expressions of Christ—unique, Spirit-led communities that emerged naturally within their cultural contexts.

He contends that trying to piece together a church based on isolated Bible verses results in a lifeless organization, akin to assembling a corpse. Instead, Edwards advocates for an organic church: a Christ-centered, Spirit-governed body that grows and functions like a living organism, not a man-made institution. Key leadership roles like pastors and elders, he argues, should emerge organically from within the community, without formal titles or ordinations that breed hierarchy and hinder the body’s natural function.

Edwards supports his thesis with examples from Scripture, church history, and his personal experiences planting churches. He offers a scathing critique of modern evangelical structures and insists that genuine church life can only flourish when believers are free from control, encouraged to experience Christ corporately, and left to grow under the guidance of the indwelling Lord.

Ultimately, the book is a call for a radical return to Christ as the center of church life and for believers to abandon institutional models in favor of cultivating authentic, organic community—a spiritual body born not of human effort but of divine life.
