Description

A New Favourite!

This book was a slow burn but a heated one. The story of a dysfunctional family: Alice, a sixty-nine-year-old woman who abhors her abusive dullard of a husband; Tim, her well-to-do ambitious son and his Russian traumatized wife; and “the other son,” - Matt, a sensitive man who abandoned his family in search of a better life in France.
This is a character-driven story that expertly peels back the layers of trauma, habit, complacency, and history.
I loved all the characters, especially Alice. She is a woman who has been powerless her entire life. A woman who has done everything to avoid conflict and, as a result, has lost her sense of self.
Her healing journey is just so satisfying.
I’ve never read anything by Nick Alexander, but after this one, I’m eager to dive into his other books.
LOVED it.
P.S. Imogen Church's narration was, as always, brilliant.
