I like the twists. Good story with ambiguous ending. I assume for sequels. Suspenseful at times. kept me intrigued and am hoping for more from this author

I loved the narrator but the story wasn’t great. It was very predictable and long. The back and forth felt unnecessary. I wanted to quit a few times but decided to go forward just in case the end would be different.

This book was a great read. Wonderfully written by A J McDine and she does give you the best suspense twists and turns you can want in a good book.
Beautifully narrated by Fiona Mitchell. Her voice captures the highs and lows. I thoroughly enjoyed her performance and loved this book.
Now the main character was a bit weird and a bit disturbed but I got it.
Ended very nicely and so I highly recommend this book. Thank you Audible Plus.

How nice to find this little gem free from Audible today! A first-rate suspense thriller with just the right number of characters to keep track of, and just enough backstory to make sense of how we got to where they are in the present. I was so pleased by the unexpected little double-cross at the end! The narrator Fiona Mitchell handles the text proficiently, but I did find her speaking voice a bit too fast. I adjusted the speed a tad and all was well. A.J. McDine is an accomplished writer whose work is easy to listen to, with a story to keep the reader on their toes. and I'll be on the look-out for more from this author. Thanks Audible!

I have to give A.J. McDine credit for having the courage to write a certifiable bitch as her protagonist. It's pretty rare that I read a thriller where a character is stalked and tormented and I end up cheering "the bad guy" on.
'Rose Barton' is an entitled, selfish wench who deserves every second of the treatment perpetrated on her despite McDine doing her best to make Rose's revenge-worthy actions justifiable. The book is reasonably well-written and the dialogue is realistic, but the over-the-top drama & insupportable characters made it a bit of a challenging read. Factoring in moderate predictability, I wasn't blown away.

As to presentation: Reader Fiona Mitchell is a genuine professional narrator - providing capable diction, timbre, cadence, and voice-acting.. but her tone is occasionally over-the-top emotive and obviously reading from a text sitting open on her lap at others. QUEST Audio Inc. could have gotten equally effective performances from any of their stable of readers. I wasn't particularly impressed.

Altogether, 'The Promise You Made' rates 6 stars out of 10. It was a reasonable way to spend a few quiet hours as a 'Plus' selection, but not worth a Credit when they ask for one.
