Description

The Rational Male is a rational and pragmatic approach to intergender dynamics and the social and psychological underpinnings of intergender relations. The book is the compiled, 10-year core writing of author/blogger Rollo Tomassi from therationalmale.com.

Rollo Tomassi is one of the leading voices in the globally growing, male-focused online consortium known as the "Manosphere". Outlined are the concepts of positive masculinity, the feminine imperative, plate theory, operative social conventions, and the core psychological theory behind game awareness and "red pill" ideology. Tomassi explains and outlines the principles of intergender social dynamics and foundational reasoning behind them.

If the medium is the message...

The narration needs work. I fell asleep a few times. Please consider a better voice for reading. Someone with more passion and dramatic flair? Or is that asking too much?

Misfit Narration

The narration is, slow, robotic, and doesn't fit the material. Rollo should do it himself.

Past that, the Rational Male is essential reading for all men, especially young men, living in pathologically feminist societies.

a struggle to listen to

Listening to this made me cringe. the content was ok, but it seemed like it was written by someone with a limited vocabulary.

This is a must read/listen for all men

After two divorced and an unplanned pregnancy (cough cough) all of my questions on what happened are answered. I'm late middle age and have made my bed. I immediately bought print copies and handed them out to my young friends (as well as print copy for myself).

I followed all the rules that society and conditioning promised me would result in a happy ever after. My ex's have an income source, so someone's happy.

I beat myself up for being a failure and was very depressed. I did do things wrong but not how I thought. All the reasons why and how I should have conducted myself are spelled out here.

Mixed feelings about this one...

I agree with other listeners sentiments about the narration. I mean just listen to the sample, need I say more!? Rollo himself has a decent voice (you can check out his YT channel) so I am surprised that he picked this gentleman to narrate, not just for this book but for all of his other books in this series! The only logical explanation I can think of is that Rollo owed him money.

As for the book itself, it is quite long and dry. It is very heavy on theory and light on practical advice. It is written like a collection of academic essays. I feel as though, when Rollo was writing this book, he was (consciously or subconsciously) thinking about the naysayers and the feminists reading it, so he tried too hard to defend his points. Instead of thinking about his main audience which is males in need of hearing his message. If you have read No More Mr. Nice Guy by Dr. Glover, you know what I mean. Now that's a book that was written in an accessible way for his main audience not the feminists.

Regardless, this is a book recommended by most as one of the first to read in this genre. It's a good book. You should read it. It's got many nuggets of wisdom and powerful enough to change your mindset. It changed mine, though Dr. Glover's book was the catalyst. Just don't expect an easy or super enjoyable read, especially if your first language is not English. I am looking forward to finally moving on to other (and more practical) books in this genre that have been recommended to me such as Models by Marc Manson and Anton's What Women Want.

Insightful, heart-wrenching, and motivational

As I've told people in my personal life; this book doesn't mess around. If you're someone who considers themself to be indoctrinated with the idea of over extending yourself to be a people pleaser, or have a fragile view of the world and male-female social dynamics, this book is for you. However, this book will tear your heart out if you are a certain type of person, or if you're in a relationship that is more or less one sided (and not in your favor).

This book made me hate myself and then learn to accept myself and now working on growing myself. It really tore away all the nievety that came with my last relationship and showed me a new side to society and females (one I was already aware of but never really thought would play such a significant roll). This really caused me personally to critically think about my current nature and belief system and now I.am working on improving myself for myself and nobody else. The women will come. What this book teaches is that you need to be fine with your own life and understand what makes you filled before you can go and fulfill someone else (if that is your intention).

Over all, amazing listen. Narrator sounds like a boss. Really made it feel like I was just have a guy talk with someone who knew what they were talking about. It wasn't sugar coated in any way and though that was shocking for me, it was what I NEEDED!

Tin foil hat

As most books, the Rational Male has its merits and interesting information/point of views. However, it is mostly delusional, and quite frankly resembles me of those crazy tin foil hat people. At some point, it gets to a point of insinuating that male contraceptive would be as impactful in a society as atomic bombs (?). It was quite painful, but I sat through all the book and it’s endless repetitions. Finally, I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone, if you want something of the same style but still rooted in reality try Mark Manson’s book Models.

Amazing book

I'm only 18, and I already wish I had read/listen to it earlier.

I totally recommend it if you want to be ahead of the curve when it comes to understanding intersexual relationships.

Highly, highly recommend!

This book describes and helps you understand the sociological and psychological reason behind much of what is embedded in our culture in terms of masculinity and feminism.

I am a 22 year old male, in shape, single, and on a successful path in life, therefore I thought I was a prize to women but for some reason, the most of the women I was trying to get with "didn't see it" or I was (in my head) "too mature for they're linear cognitive functioning for our age". There are a few things I was completely missing. Half way through the book I felt my actions changing, mindset changing, and sure enough I have had positive results (I'll save the dirty details). I believe the main reason was that this book gave me the edge of confidence and slight change in mindset that I needed to make it work better for me.

I lacked the understanding of how women worked psychologically, and based my "game" off of the wrong concepts to appeal to women. I already had most of the characteristics necessary to appeal to women, however this book allowed me to do some necessary fine tuning to my 'game'. This book will make you look back and realize where you went wrong in past relations, and why women make the decisions they do, and take the actions they do; even if it seems it makes no since on a functional level.

Every man MUST read this book, several times over.

What did you love best about The Rational Male?

It helped me realize, why as a man I have suffered so much in my life. It was nothing I was doing, I was following all the advice women gave, all the ideas you see in movies, music, I thought women wanted a man who was caring and affectionate, this book helped me realize.. That all my suffering was due from the identification with feminist ideals. The line:A Man's love is unconditional and loves simply for love, a woman's love on the other hand is opportunistic, there's a condition to receiving it. Cut me like a knife....

What did you like best about this story?

The analogy with the matrix, first made me laugh and then question the validity of this book. But as Rollo continues explaining throughout the book and referencing the similarities, that laughter soon turned into a complex set of a emotions that I cannot describe, you realize.. It's true.. We men have been made victims and no one will believe you because, they're part of the system, and just like the matrix, they will fight to preserve it..

What did you learn from The Rational Male that you would use in your daily life?

Once you know this truth.... You cannot go back. You cannot look at women the same and you realize, just how fucked up it is that your needs as a man, were never important to the world, yet your accomplishments is what everyone will relish in..

Any additional comments?

Thank you for this insight..... Thank you for unplugging me from this matrix..

Absolute pseudoscience. Can't recommend to anyone.

This book's taget audience is comprised by impressionable, young, pick-up artist wannabes that seek comfort due to their lackluster performance with women. Men that look for "Great! So it's not my fault I'm a loser!" will find great pleasure in this book.
That's coming from a 21 year old male. You CAN be a masculine man, but not because of this book.

To add insult to injury the narrator is so robotic-sounding I practically had to force myself to endure the 14 painful hours.

Clear display of much needed concepts

This makes it easier to understand the much needed concepts of dating and behaviors needed to maintain a positive attitude towards relationships and avoiding the pitfalls that lead to depression because of entering relationships without the necessary skills needed for overall health including mentally.

Self-confidence goes up just by reading this book

I rarelly, if ever, read books twice. I'm thinking about going through this one for the third time now. This book has made me aware, and now immune, to all the shaming that society does to men for just being men. As a student of the mind and human nature, I was quite aware that shame is the most paralyzing and crippling states of mind a person can have. The knowledge and wisdom contained in this book has opened my eyes to social conventions that were totally invisible to me and were feeding that sense of shame. I can say I'm a more confident man after reading it. As the author says, knowing is half the battle. Thank you, Rollo.

Essential to understand love and women

I'd recommend the written version since the narrator doesn't do the book justice, but every male should buy both.
