There is a huge, bold black streak in the sky. Branches appear out of nowhere over North America, Southern Europe, and Central Africa. People who live beneath The Rift can see it. But scientists worldwide are distressed - their equipment cannot pick up any type of signal from it. The rift appears to consist of nothing. Literally. Nothing. Nada. Niente. Most people are curious but not overly concerned. The phenomenon seems to pose no danger. It is just there.

Then something jolts the most hardened naysayers, and surpasses the worst nightmares of the world's greatest scientists - and rocks their understanding of the universe.

Been a while since reading (listening) to a quality Sci-Fi book as this one. The age of Modern is back :-)

Great idea behind the book

I loved The Rift so much that I intentionally took longer on my drive to listen to it. Great plot, great story, the perfect amount of science. I just wish it kept going.

I was struggling to find good (and novel) hard sci-fi after the bobiverse series by Dennis E Taylor... this one finally came through... "clutch" I believe is the modern term for it.
Unfortunately the narrator lost points... just for "not being Ray Porter". (sorry)
I accidentally started with book three so I'm definitely hitting up books 1 through 6 (or 7?) now.
