À propos de cet audio

Luxury villas on hot white sand, views for miles over turquoise water.
Flawless hostess Penny gathers guests to an island for her husband’s birthday celebrations.
But she soon regrets inviting self-obsessed Eloise…

When a child vanishes on the night of the party, their perfect island weekend is ripped apart. Even paradise harbours murky secrets…
Has he been taken? Has he drowned?

In the panic to find any trace, Penny casts about for someone to blame—even if that person is her own daughter, Rosie. Even clear waters descend to pitch black…

But it’s not the first time Rosie’s been attacked by her mother. And it’s not the first time she’s turned to Eloise for support.

As the sun beats down and dark secrets rise to the surface, can they find the missing child before it’s too late—or will this sudden disappearance endanger them all? …and someone among them knows the whole shocking truth

I appreciate Holly Craig's attempts to make her protagonists flawed (building on a theme that "outwardly well-adjusted people have problems, too"), but the author far overdoes it. I found the conflicts between characters - harbored secrecy and resentments revealed within the story matrix about a missing/abducted child - intriguing.. but insecure self-obsessed women battling with insecure self-obsessed women was frankly uninteresting.
I couldn't convince myself to care about any of these people. I'm a very empathetic person and it's an odd feeling to read that a woman's child disappears and my gut reaction be "Good. I hope she never gets him back."

As to presentation: it was an admittedly great decision to enlist two narrators to read the book from the two points of view that Craig employs (frenemies 'Penny' & 'Eloise').. but I wasn't blown away by the performances. Carly Foxx & Shalom Brune-Franklin are both professional readers - but not particularly impressive. Their near-identical timbre/cadences + Australian accents aren't distinct enough to add much-needed tension to the story, either. They failed to elevate the book.

Altogether, I rate 'The Rip' 5.5 stars out of 10. It was a reasonable psychological exposé for free, but not worth a Credit should they ask for one.

Annoyingly Unlikable Characters

some parts were decent. Glad it was free. Some characters were interesting. A lot of repetitive nonsense.

Ending was awful.

The story is ok, but I really liked the monologs going on in the female's heads. I can really relate to most of it. It

it's good.

Out of the 100+ audible books I’ve listened to over the past couple of years this is absolutely the worst.

Absolutely brutal, awful, waste of my time
