I think the characters had potential if the story line wasn’t so blatantly based on Fourth Wing and Harry Potter. The pop culture references were so over the top and obvious they were jarring. I had to DNF.

Great narrators but they couldn’t save this story. There are so many jarring anachronisms. For example — torches for light and quills in a world with espresso machines and refrigerators.
Also, modern language like something being version 2.0. That is a term from computer software. The dragon says they should keep the arms and legs inside - a warning from amusement park rides. Or the use of a very recent term - romantasy.
There are so many groan-worthy choices like a book series called Throne of Steel. Add all that to some awkward dialogue and rather juvenile phrasing and this book really needed to go back for a serious edit.
