À propos de cet audio

Simon Peter, Andrew, James the son of Zebedee, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Jude, Simon, Judas, and Matthias - what happened to the men who answered Jesus' call to follow him? What impact did they have on the world? Where did they go and what did they do after Jesus' resurrection and ascension? In these fascinating profiles, Dr. McBirnie offers listeners a snapshot of the lives of each apostle. His information was compiled by traveling to places where the apostles lived and visited, by studying the Scriptures and biblical history, by listening to local traditions, and by engaging in his own original research. Picking up where the book of Acts leaves off, McBirnie brings these men to life as he explores the legends, traditions, and real lives of the Twelve as they built the foundation of Christianity.

Academic. Comprehensive. Well-researched.

McBirnie delivers a comprehensive and well-researched description of the what happened to each apostle. With scholarly precision, he summarizes historic texts and longstanding traditions of where each apostle went, what they did, and where their relics are buried. Then, he offers his opinion of the most likely scenario.

Most meaningful quote to me
"Those people in the modern world who would accept Christianity but who would reject the church, that is assembly or local congregation, as the central human instrument in the strategy of God, have divorced themselves from the apostolic tradition. Were the apostles to return to earth today, they would have little time for those who image there can be a churchless Christianity. Such Christianity, if we even dare call it that, is incapable of survival. If we would have Christianity to survive, our first loyalty must be to the one whom Thomas called my Lord and my God and secondly to the only divinely ordained institution on earth, the local assembly or congregation of his people.
