À propos de cet audio

"After the first forty days we were alone," writes Churchill. This edition is part two of Churchill's own abridgement of his original six-volume history of the Second World War.

Please note: This book was originally published in six volumes:

1. The Gathering Storm
2. Their Finest Hour
3. The Grand Alliance
4. The Hinge of Fate
5. Closing the Ring
6. Triumph and Tragedy

Churchill then condensed these into four volumes, which have since been released as one, rather hefty, publication. This is an unabridged recording of Churchill's condensed volume, broken up into four parts, as follows:

1. Milestone to Disaster
2. Alone
3. The Grand Alliance
4. Triumph and Tragedy

Ce que les critiques en disent

"Succinct it most definitely isn't, but then if your legendary bulldog-breed leadership had won the war you'd probably take your time about it. It was originally published in six volumes (now you see why Norman Stone is the lick), but Churchill himself abridged it to four, each lasting around 10 hours. I meant to get Volume 1, but never mind - I'm riveted by events between March 1940 and July 1941, especially Hitler's detailed plans to invade Britain by laying a narrow corridor of mines under the Channel. Though without Christian Rodska's wonderful voice - dare one say it's better than Churchill's - I might just have dozed off during the statistical bits."( The Guardian)

WWII from his point of view, as usual he claims to be blameless for any cockups.

Great telling of the story. The narration was excellent. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Great book.

This book is written by Churchill. He may be biased to his own view, but it is certainly a view better than mine. History written by the victor.

Not made clear in the display and marketing of this book that it is one of a series, and not the first. I believe it is only the 4th book to suggest so on the cover image

Churchill.

As we watch passively while China’s communist dictatorship consumes freedom, these books are a frightening reminder of the lessons already forgotten… tremendous reader for this series channels Churchill himself

This is a fascinating look at the buildup to the war, there is so much I just didn't know, or even know to wonder about.

The narrator made me feel like I was hearing Churchill read it himself, not that he is trying to sound like Churchill, he reads it so well.

Churchill did an excellent job of writing in broad terms and then zooming in on specific events and giving us the details, he was a very talented writer. Getting Churchill's own account in his own words, while it isn't as balanced and rigorous as the work of some professional historians may be, is honest, candid and compelling.

Being in my thirties I have been listening to this series while prepping meat for the smoker and while on the road for my job.

Get's you hooked to buy the rest.

Christian Rodska is masterful. And Winston Churchill was the rare man who had the strength, courage and opportunity to step up and play a pivotal role in history when given the opportunity to do so. Luckily for us, he was also an excellent writer, so his first hand account of WW2 it is both moving, and at times entertains, and worth every minute.

Stunning

This book should be read on the merit of the author alone. Sir Winston Churchill saved the world!

Great insights. Brilliant writing.
