Stupendous series and narrator!!
I really liked Matt Goldman's The Shallows, Book 3 in the Nils Shapiro Series. I enjoyed the well-developed characters and their flaws and struggles to do the right thing while being human. The relationships between the characters were wonderful. I liked the twists in the cases. And the icing on the cake is the narration by MacLeod Andrews! Bravo! Books 1-3 in the Nils Shapiro Series are wonderful! Highly recommended!

Great Book
The narrator has brought the characters to life. Nils is an interesting character, usually one step ahead but made a huge mistake in this one.

Great narration kept me invested in the characters
Adding Macleod Anderson to our top five list. And now ready to dive into other Matt Goldman pieces. Good stuff.

Relatively Weak Entry In A Great Series
Don't get me wrong.. this is a more than passable Private Dick mystery with a complicated protagonist, interesting (genuinely unlikable) clients/supporting characters, and twists aplenty. Matt Goldman writes a well-contrived gritty story with a sombre atmosphere. Unfortunately, the sarcasm/humor is slightly incongruous and - despite a largely honorable set of ethics - I found myself not liking (and hence not caring for) Nils Shapiro in this one.. there is a noticeable lack of tension.
MacLean Andrews is a typically excellent reader on this project, making the audiobook better than a text copy would be. Although he sounds somewhat bored, I am actually unsure why Blackstone Audio decided to switch readers for Book Four.
Despite a slightly subpar effort overall, I give Book Three of the 'Nils Shapiro' series 6.5 stars out of 10. It was fine for Free as part of the 'Plus' initiative, but I wouldn't spend money on it if they asked (nor will I be continuing with Goldman's PI stories).
