Histoire
The first novel in Simon Scarrow's bestselling Roman series. It is 42 AD, and Quintus Licinius Cato has just arrived in Germany as a new recruit to the Second Legion, the toughest in the Roman army. If adjusting to the rigours of military life isn't difficult enough for the bookish young man, he also has to contend with the disgust of his colleagues when, because of his imperial connections, he is appointed a rank above them.

Description
The Forgotten Legion fought against almighty odds at the very edge of the known world - and lost.
Now Brennus the Gaul, Tarquinius the Etruscan soothsayer and Romulus, bastard son of a Roman nobleman, are prisoners of Parthia. They dream of escape, but in the brutal fighting which lies ahead, only two will survive.
Meanwhile, Fabiola, Romulus's twin sister, is caught up in the vicious eddies of Roman politics. Hunted by slave catchers she flees, hoping to find her lover, Brutus, bound for Alexandria with Caesar.
Ben Kane's brilliant second novel plunges his characters into a cauldron of war and terror, as Caesar and the Roman Republic hurtle towards their day of reckoning.

This is really tedious read
Oh wow what a step back in terms of quality. Each character is constantly asking the gods for help while each protagonist gets into hapless situation after situation. I can’t get through it to finish the trilogy. I feel like Kane needed to bloat the length the same as the last one but didn’t develop the characters or create anything that would really engage the reader. Oh well, I’ll move onto something else.

Good Second Book
Good second book to the series. Not quite as great as the first, however, I do believe this book will serve as a great bridge to the rest of the series. Really enjoyed this one.

Feels a little repetetive in some terms.
Some lines are repeated way too much just for the sake of emphasis. Anyhow it is an enjoyable storytelling.
