Description

A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

A TikTok sensation, this rom-com about a young woman who agrees to fake date a colleague and bring him to her sister’s wedding has “everything you could want in a romance” (Helen Hoang, New York Times bestselling author).

Catalina Martín desperately needs a date to her sister’s wedding. Especially since her little white lie about her American boyfriend has spiraled out of control. Now everyone she knows—including her ex and his fiancée—will be there and eager to meet him.

She only has four weeks to find someone willing to cross the Atlantic and aid in her deception. New York to Spain is no short flight and her raucous family won’t be easy to fool.

Enter Aaron Blackford—her tall, handsome, condescending colleague—who surprisingly offers to step in. She’d rather refuse; never has there been a more aggravating, blood-boiling, and insufferable man.

But Catalina is desperate, and as the wedding draws nearer, Aaron looks like her best option. And she begins to realize he might not be as terrible in the real world as he is at the office.

LOVE

This romance novel has it all. I love the push and pull and I love how you feel like you know the characters 5 out of 5 for me

Get with it already!

It’s a good book... BUT it drags on and on much longer than necessary. I have 3 hours left, and I’m out of patience. The heroin is blind on purpose and it get old fast. And the male character should have had his own narrator. Also, I don’t know if it’s a coincidence, but if you’ve read the Hating Game, it’s like a fanfic of that novel.

so so long

This narrator was really terrible and her M voice was awful. totally ruined any potential this agonizingly overly long and boring 'romance' had.

I'm convinced the TikTok hype was sponsored.

The male love interest never says more than ten words at a time and the female main character is terribly unlikable. I don't know how this made it past an editor. And the narrator of the audiobook uses a male voice for Aaron that is the ghost of a chain-smoker. I held on for the smut, but by the time I got there I couldn't stop cringing when the narrator spoke it. DNF'D after 9 hours.

Not very good

The narrator has a smoker’s voice and a subtle but irritating accent. The pace is painfully slow. The main character’s behavior is idiotic and even though it is entirely predictable, it still made me cringe uncomfortably. Overall, just not good.

Pulling teeth

The dialogue is painful and stilted. Way too much description of eye colour. The author makes thing way more complicated than it needs too be. And I feel like she thinks the reader is stupid with how many times she repeats simple information.
Not halfway through yet, but I doubt I will finish it. It just hurts my brain to listen to it.

main character is annoying and immature

the main character is infuriating - why not just ask a simple question instead of constantly being snarky. how does she zone out so easily and not understand she has to participate in this charade! why the several chapters of inane back and forth with eye roll worthy descriptions. the internal thought process she has is often redundant and simplistic. what a waste of a good idea. could have been edited way down.

Fantastic

I loved it! The narration was excellent, the story so good. I never wanted it to end!

Lina is such a well written character, complex, conflicted, and relatable. Aaron is so well revealed, layers at a time by Lina as they play through their adorable predicament. Highly recommend!

Cheesy good

If you are looking for raunchy this is not for you. If you are looking for cheesy cute and overwhelming smiling at random points then it’s your book. 8 out 10 loved it

Another Aaron Blackford fan ✨

Very well written and cute romance, nothing original but still entertaining. Both main characters were very likable and I rooted for them. the story was beautifully written and not insta-love which I liked.
Great balance of plot and spice, funny moments and really loved the "spanish" parts.
Aaron especially was another addition to my list of book boyfriends, so dreamy!
Tiny hiccup: I didn't like the male voice the narrator did, especially during spicy times.

Loved the characters, but it's a little too racy

Really interesting characters, a very fresh take on a romance. But way too graphic sex scenes. Otherwise I would have given it 5 plus.

AWKWARD and cringe worthy

This book is cringy levels of awkward. It is so indecisive. We have grown adults with relationship experience who are middle school levels of uncomfortable with "liking" each other. There are 11 hours of narrative building to a kiss. Before the kiss they fly to Europe together and sleep in the same bed together and mess around in said bed, yet kissing is STILL monumental. But then once they have any contact with each other things lurch to full-on ham-handed descriptions of sexual arousal and encounter. The descriptions of the physical affection scenes are REALLY uncomfortable...they just...try to hard. The novel needs duet narration because the female narrator is sometimes voicing thoughts or describing things she wouldn't...she makes what are typically the male protagonist's observations, but about herself. There is a feminist undercurrent in the story of the female protagonist's educational and career experiences (#metoo type stuff) and she SOMETIMES stands up for herself somewhat, but then the same female lead is childish and naive and sits around waiting for "blue eyes" to lead her into a relationship. She is passive and submissive. Adjectives are strewn through the novel with wild abandon....WAY too much abandon, and occasionally the vocabulary is misused. GAH, on the whole it is just too awkward. I DNF after hour 11.
