Description

Milton Frederick was arguably the best player of Crowned Lieges of Destiny in the entire world. As the strategy coordinator for one of the top guilds, he was beginning to actually make a living from it. That was, until he was abducted by aliens.

Instead of your stereotypical grey aliens with big black eyes who like to perform anal probes upon unsuspecting victims for unknown reasons, the Collective had a more altruistic purpose. Sure, kidnapping 100 humans from Earth, ripping them away from their lives and families, and erasing their memories doesn’t sound great - but the way they saw it, the benefits would far outweigh these side-effects. Seriously, who wouldn’t want their consciousness trapped in a Station Core, subjected to the whims of a collection of alien races, and then ordered to defend against other hostile aliens for all eternity? They’d be immortal - so...bonus!

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), the Station Core now known as Milton never arrived at his destination. Severely damaged and confused about what happened to him, he woke up to find himself trapped inside a massive chicken egg on a strange, primitive world filled with curious - and deadly - creatures.

Now, in order to survive the harsh environment, Milton has to rely on a snarky, foul-mouthed AI guide to show him what it means to be a Station Core. With her help, he might just live long enough to figure out a way to get off the planet - if only he wasn’t so afraid of squirrels....

Contains litRPG/gamelit elements such as level progression and experience, optional tables, no harems, and a heavy dungeon-core emphasis.

Based on feedback, there has been an update to include the absent footnotes to the narration. Many of the longer stat table footnotes are contained in separate chapters for ease of listening.

nice dungeon genre

I was worried when its starts all spacey and techy but the story is about dungeon creation. The progression is nicely paced and the story is pretty good as an intro. I think the mini helper girl is extremely annoying with her white trash dialog which is what looses a star. I've read a few of these stories and it seems common for the pixie/wisp or in this case mini AI to be irritating tho I cant see why. I hope the new characters bring more depth as the pool of sentient ppl is small. Decent narration minus the above concern tho it might not be his fault as she written like that. Still minor issue aside I fully recommend this book if u like creature and dungeon creation.

interested in hearing stats every 5minutes?

I really like stats but this author really over did it. I'm willing to bet atleast 40% of this book is stats. it's rather irritating because the capters are short some as short as 1min 30 seconds and after almost every chapter there are stats or useless info dumps. it really take away from the story and gives you a sense that the author was just trying to bring up his word count. I would not reccomend this book if u dont want to be skipping chapters every few minutes

His evil plan worked!

Caveat: I recieved this book for free.
So, his evil plan of making me want more worked. After listening to this book, I will be getting more books written by him in the future.
I don't like spoilers, but I do like little murder critters.

Chaotic and Fun

I've read and listened to a few dungeon core series and this has to be one of the best. The main character is quirky but funny and his companion would put any sailors mouth to shame. BEWARE the squirrels. This book is a great listen and I cannot wait for the next in the series to come out. I highly recommend this series.

Stats stats and more stats

This book has a lot of potential. I like the story and the writing. However, the author punished you seemingly every chapter with excess stats and the like under the guise of providing you with more information. I feel like it’s more to artificially lengthen the book instead. I really hate the trend of this genre where authors will repeat and entire list of stats when only one is updated. If you really wanted to provide me relevant information you would only update me on the changes.

There was more stats review than actually story.

MC is compared with other military genius, yet he never shows any cunning nor solid strategy. It is just last minute plot armor. Too much cussing that doesn't really add to anything. It is disappointed because I loved dungeon world 1.

It's eh

not the best dungeon core experience I've had, not that the pickings are that great. I could do without the LitRPG elements, that kind of stuff is so annoying, but at least this book hides a lot of the annoying parts of the genre behind footnotes. still, it's annoying to have this veneer of science just lead to another arbitrary LitRPG system that just devolves into magic later in the book anyway. I would have just rathered it be magic the whole time.

Anyway, it's alright. The narrator has an annoying voice, which is unfortunate because he seems to like doing dungeon core books. i don't wish ill on the man... he just doesn't have the voice I enjoy. i can get used to him over time, but I'd rather not have to.

I will be buying the next book. dungeon core books are rare, and this one is decent, so I have hopes for the next book

refreshing twist on the core concept

pleasant performance, no jarring voiceacting. as mentioned by someone, contains a lot of swearing but it's integral to one of the characters and completely in character. story carries nicely, timeline jumps a bit but keeps a nice pace.. development progresses nicely but stalls a bit in the first quarter, looking forward to the next book :)

Abnormally addictive listening

Normally it takes me a while to get through an audible book during my commute. This one I was addicted to, and a week later I'm on book 3. Hard to explain why, it might be the sense of accomplishment throughout the story. Just a fun easy to listen and grasp story. Not too many characters to keep straight.
My joy of the story is it feels like playing a resource management game. Still hard to explain why this would be interesting but it is. The main plot is about the character trying to figure out his environment and build up resources to survive in it.
Only thing I would change is the amount of time the narrator spends reading the stat tables. It is hard for me to skip forward while driving.

good but short

Enjoyed it thoroughly but short enough to dock a star, narration was solid.

Although I do appreciate the way they tried to streamline the presentation of stats in a narrated book, it was still just as cumbersome as usual and didn't help much. Though I've never had much of a problem with that except in some few books that went to silly lengths of unnecessary detail

slow and vulgar, but creative.

The book is rather slow and it takes a little more than half the book for another character to show up besides his A.I. who is extremely vulgar. normally that sort of thing doesn't bother me but every other word out of her mouth is practically a swear word or an insult and it gets old very quickly.

The main character was enjoyable, and his fear of a certain cute and furry animal was well done.

Most of the story was him slowly building his dungeon with only minor distractions, and setup of his dungeon core for rules. It reads more like half a book that ends at the climax with how much focus on he put on his tedious dungeon building. That said book two could be very good, the set up is there.

The narrator is constantly talking about footnote X, all over the place. however there are no footnotes in the audible version and honestly, the footnotes would only be mildly wanted if this was your very first book in the genre.

the reasoning behind his being a dungeon core was really creative and I enjoyed it, but it has fairly major plot holes. Namely the time it takes him to build up to anything useful, it tries to explain it away with his damaged core and lack of resources but it honestly just wasn't enough of an excuse when he was supposed to be a final trump card for a war on a time crunch.

Despite what it may seem like after all I've said (i can be a bit brutal), the novel was enjoyable but average.
Book 1 gives book 2 the potential to be MUCH better and I will likely pick that one up as well (after reading reviews).

A great Dungeon Core story, but

The Station Core has a pretty solid plot behind it. A pacifist alien group has come under attack. They simply do not have it in their culture to kill their opponents. Naturally, they look for someone that can do such a thing. Sadly, humans come straight to mind as being capable of this. The aliens kidnap 100 individuals and turn them into Station Cores (read Dungeon Core). A few of the military types pass away before they can be collected and converted, so they grab a few gamers to fill their roster. Something happens and one of the gamer's core is launched into space and lands on a different wold. The game core needs to rely on his gamer knowledge to figure out how to survive and what to do from here.

I really enjoyed the premise for this story and main character. I just want to be clear that this book does have one large factor that will limit it's audience. The other main character curses like a sailor. I like to listen to audible books while i'm working around the house with my kids. This is NOT a book that you can do that with. As long as you are alright with heavy language, you will enjoy this book!
