Description

How do you tempt an archmage who has everything?

From a dark and dusty tomb, Elminster emerges, seeking the guidance of Mystra, and finds only silence. He is drawn into the clutches of the mysterious and sinister Lady of Shadows. The path he takes will lead to a Realms-shaking confrontation where Elminster has to make the most important choice of his long life.

Whatever he decides, the Realms will be forever changed…

It was... okay.

This was an ok entry. *spoilers ahead*

It started off kind of unaware of where it was going, but that was sort of the story. Elminster was disoriented. They just never bothered to get around to really explaining why beyond "he set off a trap".

Thing is, it didn't get better from there. Much of the story jumps around to different small groups who all collide and almost all of them just end up suddenly dead.

The narrator I know is capable of quality emphasis but I often found myself unable to realize there was a segue from common conversation to action. The writing I. this likely didn't help since battle scenes are over in a paragraph or two, more if the awkward pseudo-mideval language is used for everyone to be posturing.

I wasn't blown away by this one. There were good scenes and interesting moments like the skeleton woman and El being genuinely kind to her. Overall though I don't think I gained much in this story to feel it was worth it.

Maybe it'll set something up for the next book though.
