A nobleman from an infamous family, an imperial legionary officer, and a born fighter, Captain Ben Stiger has successfully thwarted the attack from an army of the Cyphan Confederacy. Now Stiger, his men, and his new dwarven allies have fallen back behind the great walls of Castle Vrell. Stiger finds himself named Legate of the Vanished, the long-lost 13th Legion. This title and his own word binds him to the terms of the Compact, an ancient and mystical alliance formed nearly 2,000 years before.

The snows have come, and the mountain summit into Vrell is impassable. On one side of the pass sits an army of the Cyphan Confederacy some 20,000 strong. On the other sits Stiger, his company, the remnants of the 13th Legion, and a dwarven army. Each side is waiting for the spring thaw.

Bottled up in the Vrell valley, Stiger and his elven companion, Eli, learn of Garand Thoss, an ancient and abandoned dwarven city. Within its hallowed halls resides a prize of unimaginable value - a prize that will reveal the true history of the empire and force Stiger to face a new enemy more deadly than he has ever faced before.

Is the next book available?

This has turned out to be another keeper! I must admit that I'm extremely frugal with my five star ratings and during the month of November I've used them twice! My keeper shelf overfloweth, Both authors have made and surpassed the water mark of fantasy. MarkAlan Edelheit did not soften any action as his descriptions of a battle and all that caused it, graphically are shown. If this had been all there was to the book, it would have just another ten hours of blood and guts, no where close to a Five. He paints the characters full of humanity's foibles and the interaction between them is definitive and charges the book. Based on the Roman Legions of yore, I was stunned when our Roman leader finds that Rome was not old wives tales but had actually existed! That's only one of many subtle signals the author gives so that I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. Steven Brand is a new narrator to me so I was pleasantly surprised at the acumen and depth he brings to the book. He definately rated a five without any doubt at all! Tiger's Fate is an excellent book, well read. What more matters?

Amazing story with an amazing narrator!

Really glad that I stumbled upon this series. Honestly, the only reason I bought it was because Steven Brand was the narrator.

Worse narrator ever

I gave this a three star rating out of pitty for the author. The reader makes it sound like you are listening to a phone book recital. No exaggeration here. His tone never varies. He does nothing to flesh out the characters, they all sound the same. No emotion. Infact, he reads like a 1st grade student, sounding out each word for the first time. Worse narrator EVER.

Better and better

What more can I say, the series gets better and better and this book filled me with emotion in all ranges!! Simply brilliant and, in my opinion, on a par, of not exceeding, my love and joy when reading Tolkien. Really happy it is the same narrator again, helps continuity in my imagination and he just makes the world and characters come alive.

Well written.

Carefully and thoughtfully put together. If you enjoyed the prior 2 books, the quality does not fall off.

Continuing Excellent Story But Needs New Narrator~

Marc Alan Edelheit's series takes some new twists and turns, revealing more about the larger picture of how Ben Stiger's Roman Legion mixes in with dwarfs, elves, orcs, and wizards. Some of the reveals are shocking, and new fantasy elements are woven into the tale. Stiger shows his leadership and tactical skill, but we find the Gods have powers and plans that throw Stiger's Tigers into quite a predicament. At the end, we are left with a very big reveal and a cliffhanger, begging the reader to get the next book. It's all great fun if you're a fan of historically accurate warriors and battle tactics, but even more so when that historical war machine's tactics are pitted against a fantasy army such as orcs and wizards.

There is one big letdown and I've mentioned it in my earlier reviews. Steven Brand should not continue to narrate books unless he puts some effort into his characterizations. He doesn't change the tone or inflection of his voice, so all the characters sound the same. Many times it's difficult to determine who is speaking until we are told. Mr. Brand puts zero effort into attempting to give even the few main characters different voices. He simply reads the book out loud, as if he's reading it to himself - it's so bad he reminds me of comedian Steven Wright. And that's a shame for the author, because I suspect there is a good portion of people who give up on the audible version after listening to Brand's bland effort.

I love the story, but sadly I won't continue with listening to book 4. I'll be reading a hard copy or the Kindle version.

Bigger and Better than ever!

I love this series. And this book being so much larger than previous installments is a giant plus. Stiger's deeds and adventures in the novel feel bigger and definitely on a grander scale than previous adventures, there's so much more at stake now. The characters are well developed, you grow to care about all of them that youre suppose to, and some I didnt think I would. The world is well developed. and plot all though at first i thought was a little slow, it built up nicely. I didn;t mind it really, just thought it could of progressed a tad bit faster. But again, overall, great great listen, this book was narrated by Steven Brand, and again he does an excellent job. Really keeps the tension notched up when needed and reflective when necessary, and plays the characters very well. I can't wait for the next installment.
