À propos de cet audio
Once every year, Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip - a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfre. The boys are a tight-knit crew. There’s Kent, one of the most popular kids in school; Ephraim and Max, also well-liked and easygoing; then there’s Newt the nerd and Shelley the odd duck. For the most part, they all get along and are happy to be there - which makes Scoutmaster Tim’s job a little easier. But for some reason, he can’t shake the feeling that something strange is in the air this year. Something waiting in the darkness. Something wicked...
It comes to them in the night. An unexpected intruder, stumbling upon their campsite like a wild animal. He is shockingly thin, disturbingly pale, and voraciously hungry - a man in unspeakable torment who exposes Tim and the boys to something far more frightening than any ghost story. Within his body is a bioengineered nightmare, a horror that spreads faster than fear. One by one, the boys will do things no person could ever imagine.
And so it begins. An agonizing weekend in the wilderness. A harrowing struggle for survival. No possible escape from the elements, the infected...or one another.

One of the best horror books I have read
Very entertaining read/ listen it’s beautifully written. The end I didn’t see it going this way. The last character stayed alive was not the character I thought would. Just surprised me in a beautiful way and sad too

the troop
I found this story to be extremely difficult to follow. the author seem to lose track of where his characters were or in what positions they were. I don't know if that makes sense? timelines seemed out somehow. I think I might have nightmares about worms though for a while

Gripping!
I couldn’t stop listening. This was well narrated and the story was very captivating. However, it is not for everyone. The story has some gruesome parts that were a hard listen.

Lived up to its reputation
I have recently chewed through many a horror novel looking for a sufficiently scary/suspenseful story. This definitely scratched that itch! I can only imagine how I looked to fellow drivers on my way to work making faces (and noises) in reaction to the gruesome details Nick Cutter used to paint his pictures. He also does a great job with character development, adding in those love-to-hate characters alongside the ones you’re cheering on throughout the story (in my case out loud so engrossed not realizing there were people around me!).

Up and down, like the movement of a certain tube shaped creature...
Evocative, palpable dread, expertly hung on the disillusionment of children and the failure of adults supposed to support them.
Bogged down with tired science-fiction backstory and mostly stock characters, but when it’s gets on a roll, it grips.

Not for the squeamish
What can I say? I had to read another book in between the first part and the others because I was so intensely creeped out. As a horror novel it leans heavily into body horror and gore. Much more visceral than I would want - but having read The Deep first, I’d say this is one of Cutter’s writing strengths… but with a story like this I wish I felt it less. Off to go shower about a hundred times…

The Troop is a fantastic visceral experience.
If you Enjoy body horror and can handle stories where the victims are all children for the most part, then I strongly recommend it.

Ahhh
This was a great book. If you cant handle animals getting hurt or bugs it may not be for you.
I didn't find it scary in a typical "horror" way but it is one of the most horrific books i've read.
Love the Canadiana it seems more real when places ive seen in real life are involved. I think may be a book I pick up for my physical library but thats just my humble opinion.

Lord of the Flies Meets Contagion!
Not for the faint of heart or weak stomached, but absolutely visceral! If I had 5 thumbs, they'd all be up. The story was page-turning, and you find yourself struggling not to skip ahead, or read it all in one sitting.
