À propos de cet audio

In an epic political fantasy unlike any other, two women clash in a world full of rebellion, espionage, and military might on the far outreaches of a crumbling desert empire.

Touraine is a soldier. Stolen as a child and raised to kill and die for the empire, her only loyalty is to her fellow conscripts. But now, her company has been sent back to her homeland to stop a rebellion, and the ties of blood may be stronger than she thought.

Luca needs a turncoat. Someone desperate enough to tiptoe the bayonet's edge between treason and orders. Someone who can sway the rebels toward peace, while Luca focuses on what really matters: getting her uncle off her throne.

Through assassinations and massacres, in bedrooms and war rooms, Touraine and Luca will haggle over the price of a nation. But some things aren't for sale.

I will likely read this again in physical form; the narrator performed dialog quite well but I found the rest overly dramatic which made it so that the parts that should have been more dramatic did not stand out and a lot of time the emphasis was placed on the wrong words. I got lost in a sea of desensitization to the dramatic inflection frequently. I'm sure this is not often said but reader - please be more boring! Your dramatic voice is on point...but boring moments are important too.

The characters and conflicts had depth and nuance, political struggles and challenging development.
I think many people can identify with the main characters struggle of finding a place to belong while having ties to each faction, not really belonging to any of them and being trapped somewhere in the middle.

Good story, overly dramatic presentation.

Really well written, is an interesting analysis of reparation, decolonisation and queer love. I am excited for the next book, and a little frustrated that I have to wait until next September, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

so so good

While it did feel every bit as long as it was - eighteen hours is a solid chunk of time - the depiction of the devastation caused by colonialism is unmatched. Beautifully written.

Long, but carefully crafted
