Description

Vegas Rules, book seven:

Fresh from his victory in Reno, Sean's now in Las Vegas to fulfill his promise to help the lycans there with their own slavery problems.

Then there are all those magic users who come to sin city to play, and many of them play rough when it comes to both the lycans and the mundanes. While shutting down those casinos that won't see reason will help, Sean still has to figure out ways to help Roxy's father and the others in their quest to rein in the worst of the excesses. They may say that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but the truth is, what happens in Vegas could very well send a notice to the rest of the nation councils that things are changing, and this lion plays for keeps.

Desperate Measures, book eight:

Things are starting to heat up for Sean and for some of his allies, as well. The Sacramento Vestibulum council is starting to act in ways that no one had anticipated, and the Gradatim national council is by no means standing idly by, either. When several of the councils decide to ban together in a move to eradicate Sean's followers and remove him, as well, Sean has no choice other than to try and teach them a painful lesson.

But those aren't all the problems that Sean now has to deal with. More and more people are counting on him as the days go by, and the burdens he must shoulder are quickly growing. Between the magical work he must do, the people he must lead, the battles he has to fight, and the money he needs to earn, Sean barely has time for his wives, much less himself these days. And if dealing with the magic users isn't enough, there are some very "mundane" issues on the horizon that he may soon find himself dealing with as well.

WARNING: The Valens Legacy: Publisher's Pack 4 contains explicit sexuality, nudity, violence, a guy who makes werewolves play fetch in the park for dog biscuits (they're really good biscuits, trust me; that's why they haven't killed him, yet), and a guy who just wants to send his daughter to the best cooking school in the country.

Always great

I'm not sure how I stumbled my way to this series. But I'm really happy I did. I love the lore in this series.

I burned through the book in a day and a half. I hooked three people at my gym and we were listening together.

I like this series but.....

Dear Jan Stryvant,

I know that you have other books series under a different pen name. But this book series is a great tale, I love the world that you have built. Most other authors can't really blend in fantasy world in to the real world and keep a tale going. The only problem with this series is as much as I hate to say it. "Too Much Sex" the sex scenes get it the way of your story. They brake up the action and detract from the book. It is as bad as watching Dragon Ball Z. Stop the fight here's a sex scene...... OK if the first few books I can see where they had a place. But after... Your story can stand on it's own please let it.

To OP to root for.....

it's all a one sided fight that's all there is to it , there is no struggle for him so I can't get behind him. I still believe that it could be better of a book if there was a better antagonist but all of them are to stupid. it's that simple.

Great continuarion!!!

In this volume of adventure the narrator continued his vocal mastery of all the characters. The MC and all his wives played their roles and riveted my mind to the story once again. And coming to the end of both the books as always I was left wanting. Here is to hoping I have not come to the end of the series.

Great!

I have been thoroughly enjoying this series. I was going to wait to write my thoughts until the last book but thought I should take a pit stop here.

First, the narrator is fantastic and can emulate any kind of voice. Old and young, female and male, wimpy or arrogant, quiet or loud, he can do them all and even portrays actual whispering and yelling. He is a top notch narrator who is not afraid to try new voices and continues to impress.

Second, the story is amazing. I love the escalation of power and even after 4 (or 8 rather) books the conflict isn't getting repetitive. Each conflict relates to the last and there is cause for it. New strategies and tactics are involved each time to spice things up. The technical/magical revelations are interesting and even if they are slowing down a bit are still impressive.

My main qualm is something that popped up recently in this particular publishers pack. SEX.

In the beginning things were interesting. I found it strange how fast things progressed and how Sean took so many wives, said he could love them so thoroughly, and even started giving children to most of them. It is all explained away as being a Lion thing, or a lycan thing. I enjoyed it in the beginning because ever moment was passionate, there was a reason they were doing it, and it was exciting to listen to.

Now though... I don't like it. All of the sex scenes are getting repetitive and I don't really feel anything like before. They are all described relatively the same way. PLUS I am still waiting for the day that Sean says enough! Seriously, any sane person, any sane being or entity must have a breaking point. Call him a god or whatever but it is driving me insane. Could you imagine running a war, creating revolutionary technology, caring for hundreds of people, and dealing with the strain of your entire life being turned upside down, and then having to please six (sometimes more) sex hungry women each and every day.

Fuck that! Are you serious? God he needs a damn break. Yes it is enjoyable. Yes he loves them. Yes they all love sex and it can be incredibly relaxing. But if you are telling me that there is not a single time that he is like "No fuck off, I want some damn me time!" then something is messed up. If he doesn't have a mental breakdown in the next book or actually gets a damn break, I am going to be pissed. Kind of like I already am.

I am not going to apologize for the rant. I think women are lovely and yes you should care for them whenever possible, if you have six of them even more so, make them feel loved. But goddamn, where is the self-love?

Thats it, I will stop now.
TL;DR A great series with an amazing narrator and fantastic plot line structure. Interesting characters and developments but there is actually too much damn sex.

Boy it is getting complicated

I feel so bad for Sean his life just keeps getting more and more complicated. I amazed by how self involved and Narcissistic the magic users are, guess I shouldn't looking at what is going on in the USA politics. Excellent series now on to the next book.

Great, but character development flaws are here.

Shawn is kinda becoming a huge prick after getting blood on his hands. still read.
