À propos de cet audio
Oddny and Gunnhild meet as children in tenth century Norway, and they could not be more different: Oddny hopes for a quiet life, while Gunnhild burns for power and longs to escape her cruel mother. But after a visiting wisewoman makes an ominous prophecy that involves Oddny, her sister Signy, and Gunnhild, the three girls take a blood oath to help one another always.
When Oddny’s farm is destroyed and Signy is kidnapped by Viking raiders, Oddny is set adrift from the life she imagined—but she's determined to save her sister no matter the cost, even as she finds herself irresistibly drawn to one of the raiders who participated in the attack. And in the far north, Gunnhild, who fled her home years ago to learn the ways of a witch, is surprised to find her destiny seems to be linked with that of the formidable King Eirik, heir apparent to the ruler of all Norway.
But the bonds—both enchanted and emotional—that hold the two women together are strong, and when they find their way back to each other, these bonds will be tested in ways they never could have foreseen in this deeply moving novel of magic, history, and sworn sisterhood.

The Weaver and The Witch Queen by Genevieve Gornichec
Is bewitchingly woven.
Let’s just say I have been waiting for this novel since devouring The Witches Heart, one of the best novels I have ever read. This is Gornichec’s second novel, and is brilliant.
Unlike Loki and Angrboda myths, this story was completely unknown to me, and fascinating as a result. I enjoyed following the girls and then women as they explore what it means to have friendship and the promises we make. The moral and ethical grey areas that permeate our friendships and loves.
I found Oddny a surprisingly difficult character to like, almost right from the beginning. Not so much as to not continue the story but more cautious around her storyline. We know so many like her, those that make questionable choices that are justified to themselves but unforgiving when others make poor choices. Her love interest really crystallized this to me, it was something I never got over. Almost to the point it pissed me off.
But that made the story more interesting all the same. The novel was actually more similar to Sistersong by Lucy Holland. How not all the main characters are likeable, some are murky. And you don’t want to rejoice in their shock with reality, but you also don’t want them saved from it.
Although I truly enjoyed the story I found aspects a little too predictable. The 3rd witch, I knew almost right away. And the enemies to lovers theme was evident from the start. Although I did also think they would fall in love and then have a big betrayal. That’s not to say it wasn’t enjoyable, it was just satisfying to be proven right.
I must say I was surprised how long it took to get to the queer aspect of the story. It felt missing all the while and then it exploded like technocolour and the novel suddenly felt more right.
Overall I found myself never putting it down, finishing it very quickly in less than 2 days. It was an interesting world, one in which I do not often visit. All I can say is any Gornichec book I shall voraciously devour my whole life long! Cannot wait for her next book! Hope it’s less than 2 years till the next!
This novel is for anyone who enjoys fantasy historical fiction, Norse myths, women led stories, witches, epics, lgbtq2+ novels.

That being said, it isn't a bad book, just not the one that I expected.
definitely a YA romance

unfinishable

I found the plot predictable and trite. There didn't seem to be much character development, and it kind of just hopped from one trope to another.
The narrator was pretty good, but had a few language tics that ground my gears (shtew, shtruggled, shtreet).
With all that being said, I really struggled to finish this book. I think my expectations were too high coming in. This is a very different kind of book than her first novel, so maybe if you go in with that knowledge, you may enjoy it more.
I was expecting more
