Whispers of War takes on the heady subject of enemy aliens at a time of war which is what brought me to buying the book. I thought it would be a deep emotion, heavy meaning, literary delivery on the subject wrapped around a colourful tale. I was wrong.

Whispers is bereft of any depth, any tension, any lasting affect. It is an uber-light tale likely made for a woman's book group possessing minimal plot - all cotton candy, no steak, no lasting nutrients, no deep attachment at all.

Editors harp on about hook and inciting incident and tension all of which the reader will find lacking here. A true S & S publishing mystery here.

The characters are well developed but often the dialogue is too protracted, action scenes in either words or deeds, non-existent. And scene descriptions are sorely lacking, so the reader finds herself falling through black holes in their imagination.

If you're looking for a superficial read, I guess, but don't expect more.
