It wasn't a perfect book, but it was sure entertaining! I had no idea where the plot was going for the first half, and when things started coming together, there was a sense of urgency that kept me listening.
As some reviewers noted, there is some graphic content involving minors, and it is pretty unconfortable, but it, and this might not be a ringing endorsement, but, it could have been a lot worse.
The world building was fairly strong, the writing descriptive but not flowery, and the mystery and supernatural elements were well done, overall.
My one gripe was the US versus UK cultural stuff. I'm from neither place, but it just seemed stereotypical and unrealistic. At the start when the new American student is meeting his fellow students for the first time, they are incredibly rude but passed it off as "British humour." Really? Ugh. Likewise, the female lead started out as unbearably rude. It was not endearing at all. The characters grew, though, which I appreciated.
Overall, it was good value for the dollar, I think. An entertaining listen.
