The story begins with an eerie midnight encounter between artist Walter Hartright and a ghostly woman dressed all in white who seems desperate to share a dark secret. The next day Hartright, engaged as a drawing master to the beautiful Laura Fairlie and her half sister, tells his pupils about the strange events of the previous evening.

Determined to learn all they can about the mysterious woman in white, the three soon find themselves drawn into a chilling vortex of crime, poison, kidnapping, and international intrigue.

Masterfully constructed, The Woman in White is dominated by two of the finest creations in all Victorian fiction: Marion Halcombe, dark, mannish, yet irresistibly fascinating, and Count Fosco, the sinister and flamboyant "Napoleon of Crime".

First in the genre

This novel from the early 1800s established the crime novel genre. It is too long by today's standards but well enough done once you get used to all the extra words.

Wonderful book

Enjoyed the many characters as they read their part. Very entertaining. I have often wanted to read this classic novel and now I have. Excellent mystery full of twists and turns.

Absolutely incredible story and performance!

For those of you who enjoy and appreciate the amazing detail and period writing of Charles Dickens' works , you will absolutely love this one! There is never a let up in the suspense. The story holds strong throughout and intrigues the reader. I could not wait to keep listening to the story from the time I started! it totally grabbed my attention! The person that made it all come to life is the amazing narrator who can do all the voices but please pay special attention to the special voice he uses for Mr Fairley, Laura's uncle., so believable and so funny! A book not to be missed! Probably the best story I have ever heard on Audible!

Engrossing story

A story with many twists. It was difficult to leave off listening. The narrators are excellent. Thoroughly recommended!
