Twelve-year-old Mateo dreams of the sky, while his eleven-year-old sister, Sofia, can fix any engine you put in front of her. Taking to the air, Mateo and Sofia plunge into an adventure beyond their wildest dreams. Their journey will take them over blinding salt flats, through mist-shrouded cloud forests, and into the heart of ancient, forgotten ruins. But the mountains hold dangerous secrets. They must survive treacherous storms, navigate the perilous "Devil's Spine," and escape a shadowy group of ruthless artifact hunters who want the treasure for themselves.

With only their wits, Sofia's mechanical skill, and Mateo's steady hand on the controls, can the two young aviators outfly the danger and discover the secret of the Lake of the Sky?
