In summer 1999, Moby released the album that defined the millennium, PLAY. Like generation-defining albums before it, PLAY was ubiquitous, and catapulted Moby to superstardom. Suddenly he was hanging out with David Bowie and Lou Reed, Christina Ricci and Madonna, taking esctasy for breakfast (most days), drinking litres of vodka (every day), and sleeping with super models (infrequently). It was a diet that couldn't last. And then it fell apart.

The second volume of Moby's memoir is a classic about the banality of fame. It is shocking, riotously entertaining, extreme, and unforgiving.

So I read the first one as well. Honestly this is decent cautionary tale about the woes of being rich famous alcoholic and addicted to drugs and sex with random girls. If you’re an aspiring DJ it has a lot of good context on what to expect living that sort of lifestyle. Very depressing ready legit made me feel like a depressed rich artist drug addict just reading it

It is a very raw story. I love that Moby reads it, because he knows how to accurately display his emotion felt in the book it is great! Truth is we aren't amazing, and no one is perfect. Always recommending this to everyone!

I read/listened to parts 1 & 2 back to back and though I was engaged most of the time, I found that these two books could have been condensed into a single book. Regardless, it’s an extremely interesting and transparent look into Moby’s life up until 2008. As a big fan I was moved with his tenacity and appalled at the debauchery. Having him narrate it in its entirety made for a more personal experience and made it hard to put down. I am even more of a fan of his artistry and persona as I feel much closer to him via these books. I definitely recommend reading them. If you don’t want to learn about his life leading up to the release of his iconic album ‘Play’, then I’d start with this book (even though the 1st book is a great read). Moby, you are a fantastic human being full of empathy, an incredible musician and a champion for animal rights. You are adored by an army of followers.

Fun and funny at times but dark and depressing at the heart of it. Kudos to Moby for going this deep into the excess of his rock star lifestyle. Wish it had a little more about the music but super engaging listen none the less.
