À propos de cet audio

Things I’ll Never Forget is the story of a young high school graduate in 1965 who faces being drafted into the Army or volunteering for the Marine Corps. These are his memories of funny times, disgusting times and deadly times. The author kept a journal for an entire year; therefore many of the dates, times and places are accurate. The rest is based on memories that are forever tattooed on his brain. This is not a pro-war book, nor is it anti-war. It is the true story of what the Marine Corps was like in the late 1960’s, when the country had a draft and five hundred thousand Americans were serving one year tours in battle-torn South East Asia. If you served in Viet Nam you will want to compare your experience with the author’s. If you know someone who went to Viet Nam, you will want to listen for yourself what it was like. If you lost a loved one or friend in the war, you will want to listen to this and share it with others.

Those endlessly fascinated with the how and why of the Vietnam war (I am included) need to listen to this. Candid, no bullshit and author is welling to show his genuine feelings. Outstanding. And narrated by Malcolm Hillgartner like a boss. 5 stars.

Attention War History Readers. This is good.

Respect, nothing but. Brought me back to a time of wonder and awe. Recommend to anyone wanting a taste of what it was like to be in one of America’s wars.

Stunning account

Really enjoyed this book. Not a history text book; just one soldier’s experiences in war.

Great read.

From the recruiting center lies, entering the pipeline, doing lots of nothing and then the contrast of hyper-vigilance, the affects of sleep deprivation, and tragedy. For me, this story was engrossing.

I did my two decades in uniform and understand the BS drudgery. I did my grunt time in theatre, mostly training, vigilant and sleep-deprived, yet I never fired my weapon in defense or anger. I am very selective on reading war history because much of it is told from a socio-political aspect, safety inside the wire.

Mr. Dixon's forthrightness in Things I'll Never Forget reads like a journal and his time outside the wire is personally relatable.

There are some repetitive mentions, but I found this element necessary to bring me as the listener back to the basics of the story.

The narration, tempo, highlights and lowlights are capably performed by Mr. Hillgartner.

Mr. Dixon's squares off his recounting of his time in theater, as his memories that understandably change with time. As a listener, this added credence to his Spot On Storytelling.

Recommended.
