AMAZON EDITOR’S PICK
“A celebration of the healing power of family and dance, Holker’s memoir shows how to heal from tragedy without wrapping everything up in a neat bow.” – Library Journal
In this candid and emotional memoir, Allison Holker opens up about her incredible dance career, her relationship with Stephen “tWitch” Boss, and the resilience that has carried her forward after his death.
Allison Holker was just eighteen when she found fame as a contestant on the reality TV show So You Think You Can Dance. Over the next several years, she had her first child, built a successful career as a professional dancer despite the industry being hostile to working moms, and fell in love with and married fellow dancer Stephen Boss, the former hype man and DJ of The Ellen DeGeneres Show known for his charisma and relentless positivity. Two more children and a wealth of professional opportunities for both Allison and Stephen followed, and the Bosses appeared to be one of the great Hollywood love stories.
Then, in December 2022, Stephen took his own life, leaving Allison to wrestle with unanswered questions, haunting what-ifs, and the heartbreaking realization that Stephen’s infectious joy was hiding pain, addictions, and self-doubt deeper than anyone knew.
For the first time, Allison reveals how she has navigated the emotional and financial aftermath of Stephen’s choice, guided their three children in their grief while managing the outpouring from a well-meaning public, and reopened herself to the next chapter in her professional and personal life. A beacon of hope and comfort for anyone experiencing grief—especially unexpected loss due to suicide—Allison’s story is an honest reflection on the pain of looking back on a complicated life and the resilience required to move into the future.

Compelling storytelling
It was a great read. It was very honest and raw about grief but also a beautiful love story.

A perspective most probably don’t consider
I applaud her for telling her truth and not what everyone wants to hear for the sake of their own feelings. Well done Allison, you were honest and have helped so many who can relate to this.

Vocal Fry
I love listening to the audible books - especially when they are a biography - Suzanne Freeman has serious vocal fry with her narration - every word starts then ends in a fry - very distracting - I am going to get through it - but there has to be some sort of policing of this as alot of people who read books think this is something that is attractive. Allison wrote a very beautiful story about her life - it would have been great if she could have read it.

A mother with heart!
This biography really showed a mother who would do anything to help her children get through the trauma no children should have to experience. I was moved by her strength and ability to be present and show up for her family.

I couldn’t get past 2 chapters
I pre-ordered the book and forgot to cancel. I felt extremely uncomfortable listening to this and had to stop after 15 mins and delete. It’s truly no ones business all this information. This should have never been published, it’s for money and clout. Twitch would be so disgusted. Let this man rest in peace and the world to continue to see him as a shining bright star. His poor family having to deal with her on top of losing their family member. Hope you are dancing your butt off up there!

Exploitative and Deeply Disappointing
Allison Holker shares deeply personal—and unproven—details about tWitch that do nothing but tarnish his legacy. It’s heartbreaking to think of his family hearing this.
The robotic narration only makes it worse, stripping away any authenticity. If you truly respected tWitch, skip this book. It does nothing to honor the man so many admired.

Insensitive
I found Alison Holker’s book to be incredibly self-serving. She tells Stephen’s story in a way that makes him look like a deeply troubled person, almost as if she’s trying to shift blame onto him. Throughout the book, she repeatedly shames him for taking his own life, showing little regard for the severity of suicide and the pain that comes with it. Instead of addressing mental health with care and understanding, she seems more focused on portraying herself as a righteous, almost saint-like figure. She insists that she deserves privacy and compassion, yet she violates Stephen’s privacy in ways that feel unfair and unnecessary. The entire book left me with a bad taste, as if she was more interested in controlling the narrative than truly honoring Stephen’s memory.

Plain
It’s very surface level, pretty boring
If you liking drinking games - do it for every time she’s says “Steven” (where was the editor on that?!)
Or every time she describes how good of a person and mother she is.
I didn’t love the narrator, I think she over dramatized things… I don’t know. I think it sucked
