Description

Rowan and Citra take opposite stances on the morality of the Scythedom, putting them at odds, in the chilling sequel to the Printz Honor Book Scythe from New York Times best seller Neal Shusterman, author of the Unwind dystology.

The Thunderhead cannot interfere in the affairs of the Scythedom. All it can do is observe — it does not like what it sees.

A year has passed since Rowan had gone off grid. Since then, he has become an urban legend, a vigilante snuffing out corrupt scythes in a trial by fire. His story is told in whispers across the continent.

As Scythe Anastasia, Citra gleans with compassion and openly challenges the ideals of the "new order". But when her life is threatened and her methods questioned, it becomes clear that not everyone is open to the change.

Will the Thunderhead intervene?

Or will it simply watch as this perfect world begins to unravel?

Possibly best book I've ever read

This second book in the Arc series surpassed all expectations. I am in awe. Absolutely mind blowing.
I am so very happy I decided to give this series a shot. A masterpiece.

Still super engaged!

I'm still blown away by this story and this futuristic world. I am smitten by the Thunder Head himself and cannot wait to complete the series. And again the narrator knocks it out of the park, his various voices and accents makes these books come to life! So excited to complete this story! On to the conclusion.

Another good book

This book was better than the first one. This serie is big on political intrigue and I love it for it. Greg Tremblay did an amazing job. His nuance and tones make for some great varity of characters(males and females). At some point he was able to mix 2 character voices so perfectly I was shock. I ll be sure to check the other books he narrate.

Loved it

Great book with amazing narration. The story itself is interesting and full of unique and thoughtful turns and twists. This second installment really fleshes out the world and I loved getting to know it better. Left me hungry for more. Also the narration is the best I've ever heard in an audiobook, he gives everyone unique voices without being over the top. Great job.

The Thunderhead has Spoken.

This is a magnificent book. The ending was amazing and not predictable with convenient, last minute, pull tricks out of nowhere escapes/loopholes.The thunderhead has rendered its verdict, it does not make mistakes, and it's voice resonates.

Amazing!

I absolutely loved it!! As the first one was so good I thought it would be quite hard to make a follow up as good but I was so wrong. This book hooked me and I couldn't stop listening. Bravo and thank you to Neal Shusterman for writing such an entertaining story and Greg Tremblay for rendering the reading soo alive :-) :-)

What a roller coaster!!!

Like any book, there are good and bad moments. Times when it’s impossible to put this book down, and times when you’re anticipating the next whirlwind. I have read hundreds or fantasy books and this one has such a great ending, my jaw dropped. Well done Mr. Shusterman.

Bridge of Scythes

The middle chapter of a trilogy is always tricky. The gold standard has always been The Empire Strikes Back (and I could likewise make a case for The Two Towers) as a bridge between the world building of volume one and the resolutions of volume three that turns out to be a joy in its own right despite the lack of closure. Thunderhead is exactly that in Neal Shusterman's fantastic Scythe series.

Having completed their training as Scythes, Citra and Rowan embark on radically different paths. Scythe Farraday goes off to search for the mythical Land of Nod (don't ask, just go with it). A new character, Greyson Tolliver, is a muggle with a special connection to the Thunderhead, which becomes a major character in itself, speaking directly to us between chapters. And in a world where there is dead and dead-ish, you just never know who is going to come back from the dead (OK, if you read Scythe, you already knew in your gut who would come back from the dead).

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the best science fiction and fantasy says more about contemporary issues than about a speculative future or an imagined past, and Thunderhead does exactly that when, about halfway through, it turns its attention to Scythe politics. And then the ending is simply a knock-out punch that hopefully sets us up for a grand conclusion in The Toll. One can only hope that Shusterman is not prophetic with the way he ends Thunderhead -- we'll see how that goes in The Toll (which may seem easy to guess but is probably not going to unfold the way you think).

I love everything

This is one of the most enjoyable pieces of fiction I have ever encountered in my entire life. The plot keeps surprising me, going to places I would have never dreamed of. I’m am internally screaming about the last few chapters, and I’m already longing for the rest of the story!

OMG! Not what I was expecting!

I read the first book, Scythe, as part of a book club at work. We were supposed to read/listen the first 50% of the book by the first meeting, and by that time, half of the participants have read the second book already! I thought they were crazy, but actually, they were so right!

Usually, the second book of a trilogy or a saga is weaker than the first one, and that is because we had so many expectations for that book that we get a bit disappointed that it was not as good as we thought it would be. However, Thunderhead is as good as the first one. If Hephaestus was the blacksmith of the gods, Shusterman is his equivalent in plot twits. I was gagging, shocked, gasping, and struck while listening to this book!

Captivating

If I thought the first book was amazing, boy did this take me on a rollercoaster of emotions. Did not know this book could be much more incredible than the last. The voice was wonderful. Loved how he kept changing his voice for different characters. Made the experience much more exciting. I can hear Citra Teranova's voice in my head as well as Rowan Damisch so clearly even after finishing the story.

inorganic coincidences

the story is beautifully read but the coincidences which come about feel forced and necessary only to achieve an end.

Good overall, sometimes slow

Interesting. However, some character and plot development was slow moving. Looking forward to the next book.

Not as good as the first one but it did end strongly!

There were a lot of new characters so it was a little frustrating trying to keep track of all the characters as well as all the new settings. That being said this narrator is excellent with such a clear voice. Towards the end I got bored but it does get stronger again and had a strong ending.
