Jack Ryan, Jr., would do anything for Ding Chavez. That's why Jack is currently sitting in an open-air market in Israel, helping a CIA team with a simple job. The man running the mission, Peter Beltz, is an old friend from Ding's Army days. Ding hadn't seen his friend since Peter's transfer to the CIA 18 months prior, and intended to use the assignment to reconnect. Unfortunately, Ding had to cancel at the last minute and asked Jack to take his place.

It's a cushy assignment - a trip to Israel in exchange for a couple hours of easy work, but Jack could use the downtime after his last operation. Jack is here merely as an observer, but when he hastens to help a woman and her young son, he finds himself the target of trained killers. Alone and outgunned, Jack will have to use all his skills to protect the life of the child.

The last number of Jack Ryan series in my mind have been just so so. This one, I’d say, ups the ant a bit. Although some of the storyline was too embellished for me. A decent listen. I wish they’d go back to more of a whole Campus team story line. This book I’ll probably listen to again, but some of the last few previous I never did as they just weren’t that good. The older books like Without Remorse, Commander in Chief, Patriot Games etc were much better and I’ve read or listened to those many times.

it's a mysterious scenario and the action builds as Jack confronts the most bizarre series of attacks by an assassin, the possibility rockets can fly untracked. it all comes down to this mysterious woman and her son and Jack's drive to save him.

great addition to the series

I really missed the use of the rest of the team, and the abuse Jack withstands gets a bit ridiculous, but it was still a fun adventure.

It felt like it lacked a lot of the supplemental story elements that occurred in support of the main story.

The writing was a bit melodramatic, but a decent first effort in the series by the author.

Definitely worth the listen, and it’ll be interesting to see how they address Junior’s injuries in the next book.

As always, the Ryan (Sr and Jr) series never disappoints. with Scott Brick bringing page after page of excitement only he can deliver, I'm already searching for the next in the series

Good for a distracted read, but even more than prior books in this series, this was just too unrealistic to keep your attention.

Great narrator.
I enjoyed the story, Jack is a great character no matter who writes him.
There were however a few continuity differences from previous tellings, things I will put down to the evolving rotation of authors. Nothing big or distracting, just noticable if you have recently read other books in the series.
Still recommend.

This book got to be the most fantastic book of all the Jack Ryan Jr stories!!! He cheated death countless times, it was so unbelievably unreal!!
the worst part I think, he found an armoured vehicle with a locked steering wheel, who would do that in the middle of Syria?!!! where theft is punished by cutting one's limb if not death!!! we're not talking about a Mercedes Benz left in the middle of Albuquerque, New Mexico, we're talking about Syria people!!!!

I am extremely disappointed... I've been a long-time fan of the Jack Ryan Jr. world, and I've listened to every single JRj audiobook to date! Scott Brick always gives great performances, but the WRITING on this one... oh lord. Truly awful. These books USED to be a ton of fun - lots of action, great storylines, some pretty cheesy analogies and one-liners (always groan-worthy and enjoyable) a little romance tossed in there, and of course the odd military history/weaponry facts. The storyline in this book is absolutely chaotic and disorderly; so pointless?? It was really just a bunch of BS combat action and complicated descriptions of military-grade weaponry with ZERO plot-line. The only other character that came into play was Gavin. And barely even Gavin. No one else from the campus made the cut. It was a ridiculous plotline, and super gory, which is really uncommon for these books... and worst of all, somehow Jack became EXTREMELY misogynistic. The narration objectified women at EVERY turn?? It was actually disgusting, quite frankly. I've always enjoyed the strong female characters in these books... it was SUPER out of character for Jack to be gross towards women (even in his thoughts). Jack has always been a bit cocky, but he was unrecognizable in this book. The narration basically objectifies women while disguising it as something "good southern boys" do?? Truly a bizarre twist in this series. Needless to say, SUPER, SUPER disappointed with this one.

The worst “Tom Clancy” series book I have ever read. The plot is totally unreallistic and boring.
