Description

A winter’s night, Venice, 1815. A 217-year-old dog is searching for his lost master.

So begins the journey of Tomorrow, a dog who must travel through the courts and battlefields of Europe - and through the centuries - in search of the man who granted him immortality. His adventures take him to the London Frost Fair, the strange court of King Charles I, the wars of the Spanish succession, Versailles, the golden age of Amsterdam, and to nineteenth-century Venice.

His is a story of loyalty and determination, as Tomorrow befriends both animals and humans, falls in love (only once), marvels at the human ability to make music, despairs at their capacity for war and gains insight into both the strength and frailties of the human spirit. But Tomorrow’s journey is also a race against time. Danger stalks his path, and in the shadows lurks an old enemy. Tomorrow must find his master before their pursuer can reach him and his master disappears forever.

A spellbinding story of hope in the face of despair, Tomorrow draws us into a century-spanning tale of humanity and the unbreakable bond between two souls. After all, what is lost can surely be found…

Great historical fiction story

This book is about a dog named Tomorrow who can not die. Well, him and his master in fact. The book is told in the voice of the dog, over more than 200 years as Tomorrow gets separated from his master and he tries to find him back through all that is happening in Europe between early 1600's to early 1800's. It is a fascinating story, very well written. The author, through the voice of the dog, describes very well how it must have been to live in Germany, in Italy, in London through these years and in this case, for the audiobook, the reader played a great part with his changes in tone of voice to give us the feeling we were actually living in those places and periods.

I really liked the story. Even though at first the action was moving between 1627 and 1815 every other chapter and it was confusing me, it did make for a special experience. The writing is very good. Description of scenes were brilliant, made me feel as if I was living it with them.

Highly recommended listen, especially for dog lovers.

If you love dogs...

I chose this book because I love dogs. The story is told from a dog's perspective, albeit a very special dog. I was a little concerned when I started the book. Early on, the dog states that he would be searching for his master for 127 years. Fair enough. Tells the listener that this is no ordinary dog. Then, shortly after, 127 years is mentioned again. Well, I suppose someone might not have noticed this was an unusually long life for a dog when it was first mentioned. Then, very soon after, 127 years is mentioned yet again. At this point my thought was whether we would ever hear about what happened in those 127 years or not. In other words, the book gets off to a bit of a slow start. Fortunately, it improves greatly after this initial bit of repetitiveness. The pacing of the rest of the book is very good and I even found the jumping back and forth in the time line to be quite well done. I mention all of this in case you too might find the beginning a bit annoying. Stick with it and I believe you will end up enjoying this book. And yes, the ending is very satisfying.

Loved the story

Such a sweet story and a clever idea to have the dog narrate. The narration is wonderful. Not good to fall asleep to as the narration becomes lively and will awaken you.

Attention Riveting

Sometimes, I get a bit bored while listening to audiobooks. This really didn't happen at all during my time with 'Tomorrow' by Damien Dibben. A beautiful narrative over the long life of a dog and his owner, but not as ordinary as any mortal's life.
