Description

A masterful synchronization of history and cutting-edge science shines new light on humanity's darkest diagnosis. In the wake of the Cancer Genome Atlas project's failure to provide a legible road map to a cure for cancer, science writer Travis Christofferson illuminates a promising blend of old and new perspectives on the disease.

Tripping Over the Truth follows the story of cancer's proposed metabolic origin from the vaunted halls of the German scientific golden age to modern laboratories around the world. The listener is taken on a journey through time and science that results in an unlikely connecting of the dots, with profound therapeutic implications. Transporting us on a rich narrative of humanity's struggle to understand the cellular events that conspire to form malignancy, it flows like a detective novel, full of twists and cover-ups, blind alleys and striking moments of discovery by men and women with uncommon vision, grit, and fortitude.

Ultimately we arrive at a conclusion that challenges everything we thought we knew about the disease, suggesting the reason for the failed war against cancer stems from a flawed paradigm that categorizes cancer as an exclusively genetic disease. For anyone affected by this terrifying disease and the physicians who struggle to treat it, Tripping Over the Truth provides a fresh and hopeful perspective. It explores the new and exciting nontoxic therapies born from the emerging metabolic theory of cancer - therapies that may one day prove to be a turning point in the struggle against our ancient enemy. We are shown how the metabolic theory redraws the battle map, directing researchers to approach cancer treatment from a different angle, framing it more like a gentle rehabilitation than like all-out combat.

Amazing book - speaker needs work

Amazing book! Clay doesn’t use a microphone filter to block out harsh whistling on the letter ‘s’ - this makes for terrible high pitches when listening! Ouch! Additionally, he mispronounces many words which is a real distraction from the story.

Effect of Narrators ear hurting "S's" nullified

By going into your phone's Sound profile and pulling down the volume on the top 3 highest frequency settings (16k, etc...) Other than that, a highly fascinating listen about the failings and a great hope for a new direction in Cancer Research.

Non-fiction books - please include references

Any additional comments?

I called Audibles customer service to ask about access to the reference section of this book. Ideally it would be available as a link to a pdf from the audibles.com website. I would like to read the chapter references listed in the notes section of the printed book (pp. 249-272). As far as customer service could help, there is currently no known access to the notes section for an audible.com customer of this book.

I was told the only way to make my request (relevant to all my book purchases that include appendices, notes, bibliography, and in particular reference listings) is to write a review. There is no supervisor to ask, no contact us page, no direct email - just the review box, which will be read by audible.com and by the publisher.

Where can I get a list of the notes? I have found the Amazon.com site, "look inside" - but I don't see how to download, copy-paste, or print that section. Of course Audible.com can't help me with the Amazon site - but I didn't purchase the book from Amazon - I bought it from Audible.com and it is reasonable to expect access to the full book from Audible and not need to ask it of Amazon.

Brilliant and ulluminating. But something important is missing.

Fascinating history of cancer research. However, an extremely valuable part of the book is missing - namely Appendix A. This appendix contains implementation details for the R-KD aka Restricted Keto Diet and info about 3-BP and its avaibility in Flagstaff AR.

Material is fascinating, Narrator challenging

The material is fascinating. It seems as if cancer treatment and nutrition research have both run off the rails and into the weeds due to tenaciously (and unfortunately incorrect) US government "science" funding. Science in quotes because research money seems only to go to support approved conclusions.

The book is challenging to listen to, however, because the narrator does not seem to be able to pronounce all of the syllables in multi-syllabic words. He says "exackly". He pronounces some scientific terms so strangely it takes me a second to recognize them. His voice is very pleasant, but the pronunciation! I tried to listen a second time, but simply could not stand it.

Travis is the Michael Lewis of cancer research

Like Michael Lewis, TC takes a subject that would glaze the eyes of most doctors and turns it into a detective story. This gripped me from end to end.

Everyone should read this. Especially oncologist!

My wife is scheduled to start chemo soon and she has been following a ketogenic diet for a couple months and will continue through chemo and beyond. This and fasting will increase the affects of the chemo and protect her healthy cells while mitigating side effects. This book makes me sad and mad.

Documents a critical turning point

In the history of medicine. Suggests now may be the time to end chemo / radiation in treatment of cancer.

THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES.

I am very grateful for this book.

Great book, easy to listen

Enjoyed the story and the narrator. Excellent work!
Wish there was an Appendix with cited papers. I looked up a few and some were easier to find than others from the mentioning in the audio.
Will listen to it again

Detailed and informative

The book is filled with both the historic and scientific explanations of how cancer has been thought to work,m, how cancer drugs work, and why there is a lot to be excited about in a metabolic cure approach to cancer.

Great Book! It sheds light on Cancer Research.

Even for the layperson this book is full of science that peaks the curiosity of why cancer treatment is not being addressed in main stream medicine with an open mind. I give thanks to the researchers that have allowed themselves to notice how a Restricted Ketogenic Diet and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy can be effective in Cancer treatment. Just a note that in the hard copy of the book that I bought in 2018 there is an an Afterward and an Appendix A and B that aren’t in the Audible version. Appendix A gives an overview of recommended diet strategies. It is worth looking into.

Illuminating! And Narrated With Compassion

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! Must read for anyone with cancer. And the complex information was spoken directly to me with great understanding.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Narrator. It felt like he cared and had genuine feeling for those of us who are searching for answers.

Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the history and the possibility of a solution.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When a man's life was nearly saved at the last moment by a common substance found in a a chemist shop for pennies.

Any additional comments?

Really drives home difficulty of undoing long held beliefs by facts and experiments that long preceded chemotherapy. Cancer thrives on fermentation. Starve it through ketogenics.
