It's fall in River Grove, and the air smells like wood smoke, spiced lattes and fresh bread. Out-of-town customers flock to The Laughing Loaf, as local news recommends the bakery as a not-to-be-missed destination in the redwoods.
After her maybe-boyfriend Nate takes off for a bird photography gig in the Galapagos Islands, Gracie chases a mysterious prowler from her front porch. The next day, a man in a green overcoat is found dead on the highway into town. The man has no ID, only a photo of Gracie in his pocket. Suddenly Police Chief Westerman is asking questions. The witness protection marshals monitoring Gracie and her father begin planning their relocation from River Grove—which may happen before Nate returns from his shoot.
Gracie must take on another murder case--one that may cost her life, her bakery, and the town she’s come to love.
