À propos de cet audio

Introducing maverick Chicago private investigator Sam Kelson in the first of a hardhitting new crime noir series.

Sam Kelson is a PI like no other. As a consequence of being shot in the head while working undercover as a Chicago cop, he suffers from disinhibition: He cannot keep silent or tell lies when questioned. But truth be told - and Kelson always tells the truth - he still feels compelled to investigate and, despite the odds, he's good at his job.

Hired by Trina Felbanks to investigate her pharmacist brother, whom she suspects is dealing drugs, Kelson arrives at Felbanks' home to make a shocking discovery. Arrested on suspicion of murder, he makes an even more startling discovery concerning his client's identity. Kelson would appear to have been set up...but by whom, and why?

As events spiral out of control and the body count rises, Kelson realizes he's made a dangerously powerful enemy. Will he survive long enough to discover who has targeted him - and what it is they want?

Michael Wiley wonders what would happen if Phineas Gage were a Private Investigator. Ex-undercover cop 'Sam Kelson' suffers from disinhibition due to a brain injury that renders him unfortuitously (and often hilariously) without a filter. Kelson spits out waaaay you much information while trying to figure out why he's being framed for a murder. Wiley's dialogue is realistic and his sense of humor shines throighout the book.. but the cat & mouse plot is capable but noticeably unspectacular.

As to presentation: The sound quality for this Highbridge Audio product is excellent. Reader Paul Woodson tends to inspire too deeply & too volubly during his narration.. but otherwise thoroughly impresses. Woodson's diction timbre, voice-acting, and tone are all well "above-average". If given a choice between a text version of 'Trouble In Mind' or this recorded iteration, choose this one every time.

Altogether, this first book in the 'Sam Kelson Mystery Series' rates 5.5 stars out of 10. It's a nice effort - and a clever innovation - but fails to captivate. Even for free it was a middling offering at best. Keep browsing.

I found the story was a bit slow. I wasn’t rushing to get back to it. It seemed to be missing something.

Wasn’t the best all around story
