Women rich and poor come to her, desperate and in dire need of help – and discretion. Dolly Merishaw is a midwife and an abortionist in Victorian Toronto, but although she keeps quiet about her clients’ condition, her contempt for them and her greed leaves every one of them resentful and angry. I liked the plot. I have always enjoyed the television series and the book was just as enjoyable. The only thing I found unsettling was how long the murder took to be solved. I guess that makes sense because what took me hours to listen to, on tv the mystery would have been solved in an our. 😀!

I enjoyed the performance and reading of the novel. Fun!
