Description

The perfect murder always looks like an accident.

FBI Agent Emmy Dockery is absolutely relentless. She's young and driven, and her unique skill at seeing connections others miss has brought her an impressive string of arrests.

But a shocking new case - unfolding across the country - has left her utterly baffled.

The victims all appear to have died by accident and have seemingly nothing in common. But this many deaths can't be coincidence. And the killer is somehow one step ahead of every move Dockery makes. How?

To FBI Special Agent Harrison "Books" Bookman, everyone in the FBI is a suspect - particularly Emmy Dockery (the fact that she's his ex-fiancee doesn't make it easier).

But someone else is watching Dockery. Studying, learning, waiting. Until it's the perfect time to strike.

Letdown

Unlike the first story, the serial killers voice was not creepy or taunting. The description of the killings were not scientifically detailed or unique. The twists were minimal and expected. I felt like there was no escalation or climax either. This book is like a anti government terrorist book, which is nothing like the meticulous serial killer in a cat and mouse game from the first book. There was so much romance also. Very disappointing.

Good storie

Thats a good storie, great suspense. But the main charactere is a little bit annoying. She is bright but in the mean time she is stupid and whynie. But overall it was good. I might go for the first book to give another chance.

Very good procedural...

This is the second book in this James Patterson/Robert Ellis series. The first book, Invisible was excellent. I would listen to them in order but I don't think it necessary as each book can be read as a stand alone.
This book begins very similarly to the first. The protagonist, Emmy Dockery is an analyst with the FBI. Having the ability to see connections where others see a coincidence or nothing at all can get her into hot water with those she answers to. When her superiors again (ditto in the first book) think she's set her sights on a nonexistent serial killer she takes her personal investigation on the road. Telling no one, not even her fiancé this will become a wedge to drive them apart.
At the same time there's a vigilante wrecking havoc on those that would hurt the sick and homeless. And someone in the FBI is feeding information to a reporter. Of course Emmy is blamed. The surprising part is who is put in charge of that investigation.
This book had some pretty good twists. The story moves at a pretty good pace with a few clues that could point to someone other than the antagonist.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Outstanding.

Literally couldn’t stop listening. Crazy plot with surprises that you thought you saw coming, then BAM. Highly recommend.

Did not live up to the 1st in the series

Story was not bad but the main character, although brilliant in data analysis, is annoying as a human. She does not make good decisions in regards to analysis of any of the other characters and it’s hard to believe someone so brilliant could be such an idiot. Tho she is still suffering from events of first in series, she still continues to puts herself in stupid scenarios (maybe this is to make the book more suspenseful but just made me want to slap her) and that martyr bit at the end was just ridiculous. Kept wanting to fast forward throughout. I had such hopes for this series, too.

Mindless, Tasteless Gruel

I’m halfway through the book, and I can’t listen to these second-string narrators try and make something out of this “thriller.” This book was to the thriller/crime genre as Little Caesars is to authentic Chicago deep dish.

I liked the first book in this series. There was more substance. It was engaging. This book is minute-after-minute of disconnected, shallow spurts of random occurrences. One minute we’re listening to the main character praise the bravery and dedication of the first responders to a bombing that the author spends approximately two sentences describing. The next minute we’re hearing the idiot-genius-ignorant-super detective talk about the slight regret she feels for breaking off her engagement five chapters ago when the author spent a whopping four sentences describing the event. It was difficult to feel invested in anything that was going on.

Good Read.

Thrilling and action pack. Leave you wanting more. The ending was a little disappointing though.

STRUGGLED TO FINISH AND FINALLY GAVE UP TO RETURN

I NORMALLY LOVE JAMES PATTERSON'S WORK BUT THE STORY LINE IN THIS ONE WAS JUST HARD TO KEEP UP WITH. I COULDNT GET INTERESTED. THE CHARACTERS WERE NOT INTERESTING ENOUGH TO KEEP MY INTEREST. THE NARRATOR WAS GREAT BUT THE STORY LINE JUST WASNT GOOD.

same plotline

Disappointing. Listened through chapter 20 and kept thinking I was listening to first book, "Invisible." Very little change in plotline. No growth in characters

Patterson wrote this?

This story started out good...but degenerated after about 80 chapters...and there were about 130 chapters. By the end, we were sorry we wasted our time listening to this. This is the 3rd of his latest releases that we have been disappointed in. We really enjoyed his Women's Murder Club books until the last one. Once he had co writers, the quality detereated dramatically.

Not his best

Actually, I almost stop listening a few times but try alway to listen to the end of a book and I did but probably won’t recommend it.
