I am a fan of Steve Alten's books, I enjoy the Meg series, I also enjoyed the Loch, and was looking forward to this one. It combines characters from both worlds, It starts off great, maybe too much scientific jargon, but a prehistoric type world, under the frozen tundra of the Antarctic? Who wouldn't like that, giant eels, giant whales, giant wolf dog things, great, best of all, giant crocodiles. All great, and all in part 1, then comes along part 2 and it all changes,
The best part of this story is the narrator, he does a great job, his accents are spot on, he was even able to differentiate the different characters who spoke in Scottish accents, it was enjoyable to listen to him.
If you are a fan of Steve Alten's work, I would recommend it, but be warned, when part 2 comes along, it goes off the rails pretty quickly and leaves you shaking your head in bewilderment.

definitely waiting on the next book heavens lake but.....the release date keeps on changing. been over 3-4 times now. hopefully it even comes out at this rate.

I was a big fan of the Meg series and the Loch, so I came into this book expecting another paleo fiction creature feature. To be fair, that IS what I got, but only for the first third of the book.

PJ Ochlan remains a talented audio book presenter, but the latter half is insane. It veers into conspiracy theories, multiverses, aliens, bizarre theological discussions, and seems to forget why it was there in the first place. I did enjoy it, but not as a book connected to the Meg series. so be very wary if you'd like to dip your toes into Vostok.

wonderful story. adventure science drama all rolled into one. couldn't stop listening. hardly wait for more.

The Three Stooges go to Antarctica. Locker room humour, conspiracy theories, alternate universes, do overs and a final because this happened the whole story never happened after all. I love reading about the Antarctic but this title is definitely on my never again list.
