À propos de cet audio

This book is a meticulous reconstruction of a tragic episode in the history of the Nazi persecution of the Jews. The SS. St. Louis left Hamburg in May of 1939 with 937 Jewish refugees on board who thought they had bought visas to enter Cuba. Refused entry in Cuba and the United States the ship eventually had to turn around and return to Europe. The voyage to freedom was in the end nothing more than a roundabout journey to the concentration camps.

This is an incredible account, with enough twists and turns to be a riveting HBO series this book gets to the heart of human kind and the importance of treating people like people.
Thank you Audible for researching and producing this remarkable bit of little known history. Very sad and very dark but also a very important lesson for us today. Thank you

A remarkable and timely reminder

So grim to listen to, knowing that they were denied disembarkation in Cuba. Well told as a result of memories and personal diaries. There were a few light moments, such as the escapades of the children at sea, An important WWII story we should all be aware of. Refugees deserve refuge and kindness.

What a fiasco
