Description

They call me beautiful. They call me a monster. Soon, they'll call me death.

This action-packed reverse harem fantasy/paranormal romance features one hell of strong woman and her four powerful supernatural mates. It contains brutal battles, explicit love scenes, raw language, magic, swordfights, Greek gods, dark fae, vampires, shifters, and a lot of assholes.

The boxed set edition contains steamy bonus novella The Court of the Beginning and the End.

As a direct descendant of the God of Death, Cassandra Saélihn is considered the most dangerous monster of all time. Her own mother locks her in a cage to protect the world from her.

Cass thought this jail would be her world for a lifetime, but then four sexy, formidable warriors - a vampire lord, twin fae princes, and a demigod - find her.

They claim she's not a monster, but a powerful weapon.

The Olympian gods have begun to destroy the Earth with a vengeance, and only she can stop and kill them. But Cass has a mind of her own and can't be told what to do, no matter how drawn she is to her four warrior saviors.

To their dismay, the four warriors can't tame the wild, cunning, and volatile Cass. But they have a bigger problem - their growing attraction toward her.

To turn the woman they desire into the ultimate weapon and ensure Earth's survival, they'll have to conquer her body and heart, which seems even harder than winning the war against the atrocious gods. But nothing turns these alpha males on more than an impossible dare. And nothing turns Cass on more than being stalked.

The box set includes:

  • A bonus novella: A Court of the Beginning and the End
  • Book 1: A Court of Blood and Void
  • Book 2: A Court of Fire and Metal
  • Book 3: A Court of Fire and Metal
  • Book 4: A Court of Earth and Aether

Not What I expected

The story line is pretty good but the sex scenes are more crude, Like hard core pornographic. I don't mind erotica , even reverse harem is usually good. But the wording for the sex scene lacks finesse and are not appealing.

Interesting Story

The book itself is interesting and worth reading. The lead female was super overpowered, outshining her mates and it was different. I did like series but it was hard to finish. I was happy at the ending but was glad it was over. The female performer wasn't great at male voices and didn't pull me into the story.

I tried. I really tried. just not for me

I'm not one to usually give up on a book, but I just couldn't muscle through the whole series. I thought maybe this second book would be better, but it's not for me.

Why???

When I got to the second book I got lost and turned very off. The fact that this kick ass character felt the need to go to school and be around 14-16 year olds after screwing 2 males that were over hundred of years old. Finding a a friend who is 16 humans years old. Baffled me. The story lost its fantasy and became a weird teen novel that is even weird for teens.

Couldn’t finish the series

I love it when a complete series is bundled together. I used 1 credit and got the entire series. This is an amazing deal. The premise of the story is solid. A girl is born with incredible powers and has been locked in a cage for 13 years. Her mother is a powerful witch and as of the beginning of book 2, her father is unknown but can be guessed to be Hades. Mortals, Vampires, Fae and Shifter realms have been in war with the Gods and Cass is supposed to be the key to win the war against the gods.
Here is the problem: Cass (the main female character) is a total brat. She acts like a spoiled 2 year old. I honestly almost stopped listening to the book about an hour in but resolved to at least finish the first book with hope she will become a better person. NO LUCK. I hate people who act like her in real life so having to endure her behavior in a book was just too much.
It’s really too bad because I love RH and this one had a lot of potential to be good if only there was a different female in the mix.
I’m stopping after the first couple of chapters of book 2. Just couldn’t do it anymore...

Such a great series!

What a series! This is my first listen of Meg Xuemei X's and it had me captivated the entire time!

A Court of Blood and Void:
I tend to shy away from reverse harem stories, one man is plenty for me! But when I read the teaser for this book, I wanted to dive in and see where it would take me. The premise of trying to take down the Gods to save the world is what caught my eye, and this sucked me in and kept me going. Cass is a direct descendant of the God of death and is thought to be so powerful that even her own mother had her caged for the last 13 years of her life. Though only 16, she is mature beyond her years, and though not have experienced much since she has been captive all this time, she is quite capable. Now broken out by 4 formidable men who want to hone her skills to destroy the Gods, she is less than tame. I love this girl. Her spunk and vigor is not only fun and frustrating to those around her, but thoroughly refreshing. She doesn't even realize the power she holds, and I am not talking about her as a weapon, but the sexual pull an attraction. A vampire lord, a demigod and twin faes are here to help her and keep her in line. The attraction to all four is so strong, but what they propose is crazy, right? Give this a listen, you too will want to see what happens to Cass in the next installment of this fantasy. It's fast paced, full of action and battles and totally hot and sexy.

A Court of Fire and Metal
This book is so busy, and has so much packed into it! I couldn't stop listening. Picking up where book 1 left off, (Yes, you must listen to all of them to get the full story), Cass and her four soulmates begin to get her ready for war. Going to the Academy is one step and Cass meets several new and intriguing characters there. Noah is one that we just aren't sure of. Full of charm and charisma, she is watching out for him. And her new good friend, the soothsayer Amber. She is a good influence and so far I am really liking her. Cass's relationships grow and the love between her four men and her keeps growing. I did find Cass a little overbearing at times, but with her impending responsibility and her past, I can understand her attitude and frustrations! She is a force to be reckoned with. If you like reverse harems, action packed scenes, strong females and just a really good story, this series is one you will enjoy! It will keep you on your toes, wondering what will happen next and your steam meter high!

A Court of Ice & Fire
This series really brings everything together! A little Greek mythology history, a little action packed fighting, some unexpected enemies and a lot of love! Meg Xuemei X continues this series with so much going on, it's important to pay attention. We pick up where book 2 left off, and get a huge surprise with Noah! People are not always who they appear to be, so Cass is in a predicament that she is not sure she can get out of. She keeps her snarky attitude, almost careless at times, but that is what has become endearing to me about her. No matter the circumstance, she keeps the energy high. Her four men are always looking out for her, and the steam factor is extremely high! It has come to the point where decisions have to be made and Cass has seen what she needs to do. The question now is can it all be done? We won't know until the concluding story! I enjoyed this book with Hades, Apollo, Ares and Demeter, each having a part that helps mold the finale. I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

A Court of Earth & Aether
This has been a whirlwind of a series! There is so much happening! It's fun, complex, romantic, sexy, all the elements of an incredible story. Book 4 picks up where we left off, and we get to see what Cass is going to do with the information she has learned. She proves to be a force you don't want to reckon with! The Gods have their hands full, and not one is safe. The fight scenes are action packed and are so vivid, you can picture it all in your mind. Zeus, Hades, Ares, Apollo, you name it and they are there! There are some surprising allies, and the love meter remains off the charts for Cass and her four mates. You will love how it all turns out!

Victoria Mei narrates the series with an amazing performance. Not only does she shine in this series, but it just shows that with a challenge of so many characters and so many different types of scenes that she can narrate anything! I loved her portrayal of characters, she has so much vibrancy and emotion that you could feel the story. Loved every minute!

Ugh...

I rarely ever return audible books, but this one was so bad i had to get my credit back. I was really looking forward to a nice long new series but right off the bat, the excessive cursing that didn't suit the story at all was tiresome. The story wasn't even interesting, and i gave it a couple of hours before i bailed out.

Too many main character inconsistencies

I initially liked this story. Now I'm just cringing at the main character Cass so much that I'm not enjoying the story anymore. My hope was high after finishing an amazing RH series (Dark Side by Kristy Cunning); so I started this one with a positive outlook. I've been wanting to read this author's work & thought I chose a good series. If I return to this later, I'll readjust the review if my opinion changes.

My main issue with a series I can't finish, is always from inconsistent character development. Meaning, a character backstory is set, but the actions & behaviors of that character don't align, just like this story shows. With a backstory of abuse, starvation of affection & food, manipulation, lack of trust, etc. & the character also matures at the fastest rate of any being (immortal & mortal); you'd expect that character to initially be immature but grow in intelligence quickly, through the positive & negative situations they experience. This series doesn't follow that logic. She repeatedly ignores odd situations & jumps headfirst into stupidity. Her traits are the polar opposite of what someone with her backstory would have (she's overly trusting, arrogant, feels superior, childish, no situational awareness, no common sense, etc).

I get a feeling that her continued ignorance is crucial because it's the only time the story actually progresses. I don't foresee the rest of the books changing the formula.

Even her new friend Amber admitted that Cass has "street smarts" & Amber has "book smarts" so they mesh. I'm trying to figure out how Amber could have identified Cass as having common sense.

A Fantastic Story!!!!!!!!

The story is unique and original. It is so intense and gripping. It pulled me in and isn't letting me go until I find out how it ends. It is full of action, suspense, drama, and hot romance. Victoria Mei has the narrative down to a tee. She makes sure you can separate each character and they are fabulous. Meg Xuemei X is one heck of a writer. The characters are amazingly beautifully developed. Their personalities are felt throughout the story. I adore boxsets as you can move book to book without interruption. Cass with her four mates have grow throughout these stories. They tend to make you laugh at times. You fall in love with them. This is a must read and a must listen to!!!!

War of the Gods

What is better than having a complete set in audio? Having it all in one set so you only need one credit!! This series is definitely one of my favorites in the paranormal world. You have twists you don’t see coming and turns that will have your head spinning. You also get the romance to die for and the action to boot! This is an amazing listen as the series is written well and the narration has blown it out rod the water!!

Won't Trash This-GREAT Premise & Narration, BUT...

I'm not going to make a judgement about the "correctness", or say, "What the writer SHOULD have done..." Her story, so she has the right to write however she likes.

What ruined my enjoyment of this book and forced me to return it, (I REALLY tried to like it because I loved the world she built, the premise, and the setting.) was 2 problems:

1-For a fantasy ADVENTURE title (which is how this came up in my search) there is NO "hero's journey". The main character has no growth. No inner conflict of actual importance (beyond which guy to bed), etc, etc.. If this were listed just as a romance novel, I would have come in with different expectations. Just arbitrarily "leveling up" isn't my definition of compelling storytelling. Note that I'm NOT saying it's wrong, just that it's not right for me. (LitRPG genre being a notable exception of course, and even then they DO something that EARNS them level-up through experience points or similar tracking.)

2-The main character is just UNLIKEABLE. No, I'm not male-bashing a female lead. There are ways to write a STRONG female without her acting like an unjustifiably entitled, SPOILED pre-pubescent Chūnibyō. (Chūnibyō is a Japanese colloquial term typically used to describe early teens who have grandiose delusions.) STRONG Females that weren't whiny brats: Ellen Ripley from "Aliens", Katniss Everdeen from "The Hunger Games", Celie from "The Color Purple", "The Bride" from "Kill Bill"... I kept waiting for Cass to have an "Aha!" moment and GROW UP, but it never came. She just kept spouting about what SHE would not tolerate, and that others should just innately respect/fear her without her doing anything to actually EARN said respect. (Imagine a 5-year-old stuck in "fantasy mode" screaming, "No! MY cookies! I'm FIERCE because I'm BATMAN! And BATMAN is THE BEST! SO ANYTHING I WANT IS MINE AND I DON'T SHARE BECAUSE BATMAN DOESN'T SHARE!") Yes, it's THAT bad.

Positives:
Incredible world "build" started (Or maybe continued from other titles?) here with relatable characters that don't just serve as background to move the main character's plot along. I found myself wincing and feeling genuinely sorry for a few of them at times. There is so much potential here that I hope the author finds a way to roll them into related "shared universe" stories, as I think they would be a waste to lose. The social structure of the realms (trying not to give spoilers so keeping terms "generic") is interesting and I hope that their formations and the struggles behind them in prequel form is explored.
