À propos de cet audio

When Jake Boulder is asked to help investigate the murder of Kira Niemeyer, he soon finds himself tracking a serial killer who selects his next victim in a most unusual manner.

As the body count rises, Boulder has to work with the police to identify the killer before more lives are taken. What ensues is a twisted game of cat and mouse. Only Boulder or the Watcher can survive.

'Jake Boulder' is a Scottish ex-pat working as a Utah P.I. - bringing intimidation and bullying 'Jack Reacher'-styled violence to his investigation (classically "beating it out of them"). 'The Watcher' is a forensically-careful Obsessive Compulsive (pattern-focussed) Psychopath. Graham Smith pits the two against each other in an atmospheric "the world is ugly" cat & mouse tale after Boulder uncovers his existence and joins the police forces hunting him (while becoming a target himself).
Graham's vocabulary/prose is capable, his plotting is well-paced, and his action is choreographed nicely, but I found the Boulder character annoyingly cartoonish (basically a thug).

As to presentation: David McCallion is a solidly professional crisp-diction reader, understands the tone of the story near-psychically, and has a pleasant Scottish brogue that's comfortable for hours of listening.. but the best feature of his performance is spot-on American accents that genuinely impress. Mr. McCallion sounds like a full cast (if given the option between a text version of the book or this recorded iteration, take this one seven days a week).

Altogether, I give 'Watching The Bodies' 7.5 stars out of 10. I have little doubt that the production standards elevate the book more than it deserves, but I am happy to have found it on the 'Plus' menu, because it would rate a Credit.

Wasn’t sure of the Scottish accent at first but once I got to know the main character I was all in! Can’t wait to reach more of this character as he reminds me of Jack Reacher, one of my favorites. All of the other characters got equal screen time and I’m looking forward to hearing from them again too.

Wow! Excellent characters
