In Wealth, Poverty, and Politics, Thomas Sowell, one of the foremost conservative public intellectuals in the country, argues that political and ideological struggles have led to dangerous confusion about income inequality in America. Pundits and politically motivated economists trumpet ambiguous statistics and sensational theories while ignoring the true determinant of income inequality: the production of wealth. We cannot properly understand inequality if we focus exclusively on the distribution of wealth and ignore wealth-production factors such as geography, demography, and culture. Sowell contends that liberals have a particular interest in misreading the data and chastises them for using income inequality as an argument for the welfare state.

Great detailed analysis which has lots of data and researches info to back them up. The concepts are considered controversial but he was able to well established his points with demonstrating his deep knowledge and study on nations and their change of wealth and status during their history.

This book is truly great. It rationally argues for the true equality of men and women and provides facts and sites studies to show that people can succeed if the adopt the methods of success of those who have succeeded. Adopting the elements of a culture of success is important.

Absolutely worth listening through all the way! I've re-listened three times so far...

The depth of research, expertise, and accuracy that went into forming the conclusions and insights in this book are clearly astronomical. It provides compelling arguments for why many modern problems occur, and also provides evidence-based reasoning for positive solutions.

Very happy to have found this gem of a book, and to recommend it to anyone with an open mind and strong desire to understand the root causes of many societal issues.

This book is a wealth of knowledge, data, history and an analyses of human behavior and cultural trends presented in an understandable and pragmatic way. It is mind expanding and eye opening.

Should be required reading for every college student

I am shocked at these positive reviews. This presents such a simplistic, sanitized, eurocentric perspective based on out of date archeological and anthropological assumptions.

I couldn't finish it.

just one example - the author describes China being an advanced nation then regressing and blames it on the rejection of technology and.innovatoon and protectionist policies. At no point does he mention that china's fsll from greatness may have been linked to opium traders flooding.the nation and when China tried stop them, the queen unleashed an unholy war on China, dessotroying much. Nope, there is no way that had anything to do with the collapse of ancient Chinese empire.

This "history" is more like capitalist propoganda. did the Rockefellers pay for this guy scholarship?
