Huge fan of this series
This book felt like more than one book and that was enjoyable. The series takes a turn in this book that makes things more interesting but also introduces more characters that become really important. Read the whole series - no regrets!!!

Better and better.
These are not the kind of stories I tend to go for. That being said.. wow! Blackmore + Bray = ear bliss. I cannot say enough good things for this book and this series. Wonderful!!! Gus is the man.

The Mountain Man series is possibly the very best of the genre. Blackmore's writing is bold, filled with action, and vividly descriptive. This installment reminds me of 'The Walking Dead' - more a story about human survivors with zombies as the backdrop and a plot device - than a zombie tale. Some pretty crazy 'Road Warrior' stuff. Some of Blackmore's imagery is a little bizarre, (dream sequences and such), and some of the dialogue is pretty silly, but it's truly fun zombie apocalypse fare.
The narrator is the jewel in this crown. Bray is the only performer I've heard that's convinced me to buy an audiobook just because he's reading it. His only weakness in this one is his attempts at French accents (they sound more like Carribean Patois than French-Canadian), and the man needs to learn how to pronounce 'toque'.
Amazing book. 9 stars out of 10.

Brutally poetic... quite the feat!
I hesitated to buy the Mountain Man series since I have become rather tired of the same old, same old apocalyptic survival books; but, I took the plunge, purchased the four books (and listened to The Hospital) and am very glad I did. Keith C. Blackmore put the zombie genre into a whole, new category by allowing the undead to propel the story along with living characters with whom the listener can't help but feel an affinity. Yes, there are a few flaws in the story and a few coincidences that are mildly irksome but, overall, Mountain Man is a fabulous adventure that is well-written, captivating and although sometimes quite brutal, the series remains highly entertaining. Of course, R.C. Bray is a fantastic narrator who is the perfect choice to put a talented voice to the author's words. Well done!
