Histoire
Inverting the Pyramid is a pioneering soccer book that chronicles the evolution of soccer tactics and the lives of the itinerant coaching geniuses who have spread their distinctive styles across the globe. Through Jonathan Wilson's brilliant historical detective work, we learn how the South Americans shrugged off the British colonial order to add their own finesse to the game; how the Europeans harnessed individual technique and built it into a team structure; how the game once featured five forwards up front, while now a lone striker is not uncommon.

Histoire
A mazy dribble through the recent history of European soccer, showing how shifting styles and influence have shaped the game. In the early 1990s, the Dutch footballing philosophy was worshiped across the continent. Then the baton passed to the Italians, who clearly boasted Europe's strongest league. But when France started winning everything at international level its national academy became the template for others, until suddenly, almost out of nowhere, Europe's most revered player and manager both hailed from Portugal.

November 2019. Unai Emery’s final game as Arsenal manager sees the Gunners languishing eighth in the league. Appointed in the dying embers of the Wenger years, Emery’s 18 months as Arsenal boss has seen the team and the club go backwards – playing unimaginative, pragmatic football, and recently losing to London rivals Chelsea in the final of the Europa League. Something had to change; a fresh head with fresh ideas. A new leader.

Madatory read for every football fan
Being an Arsenal fan might make it even better but it is not required. This book does not contain any shocking revelation or dark tales from the game's underbelly.
Only the raw emotions of a man who lives for the game of football, his lowest moments to his proudest achiements.
Read by the man himself, let the soothing voice of Le Professeur guide you through the amazing journey that his life has been.

Worth listening even if you don't support Arsenal
I am by no means an Arsenal supporter but you can't deny Wenger's impact on the game over the last 20+ years. I was hoping for a bit more anecdotes from his career but he does a good job of looking back at all aspects of his coaching (and playing) career.

I am totally biased but I loved it
I am a Gooner. Periodt.
And I have always respected, admired and supported Arsène Wenger- even through those dark, finally years. I know some want this book to be a tell all - revealing never-spoken truths about the ins and outs of the club and its players. I can't imagine those people have been paying attention to Wenger all these years. He's too classy, proud and enigmatic to spill those beans. And to be honest, there are names of people I am glad are never spoken in this book - they don't deserve the copy.
What you do get here, though, is a bit of understanding of what makes him tick the way he does. From his austere yet nurturing childhood through 'his lives in red and white, what he reveals is not so much the 'what's of it all, but the 'why'.
After hearing his story - in his own voice - I respect him even more. Arsenal is not only in his name, but in his blood.
And I love him for it.

The legend himself is the narrative.
Hearing Wenger’s voice alone is well worth spending a credit for.
I will dare say it lifts an otherwise dry and drab biography.
