À propos de cet audio

The landmark exploration of the ancient worship of the Great Goddess and the eventual supression of women's rites.

In the beginning, God was a woman…

How did the shift from matriarchy to patriarchy come about? In fascinating detail, Merlin Stone tells us the story of the Goddess who reigned supreme in the Near and Middle East. Under her reign, societal roles differed markedly from those in patriarchal Judeo-Christian cultures: women bought and sold property, traded in the marketplace, and inherited title and land from their mothers. Documenting the wholesale rewriting of myth and religious dogmas, Merlin Stone describes an ancient conspiracy in which the Goddess was reimagined as a wanton, depraved figure, a characterization confirmed and perpetuated by one of modern culture's best-known legends—that of the fall of Adam and Eve. Insightful and thought-provoking, this is essential reading for anyone interested in the origin of current gender roles and in rediscovering women's power.

This audiobook is expertly read by Jo Anna Perrin, and was produced and published by Echo Point Books & Media, an independent bookseller in Brattleboro, Vermont. Audio engineering by Matthew Kulewicz, MPSE.

I binged this book as quickly as I could, I’ve always struggled with non-fiction but I couldn’t get enough of this one. I finally feel like I truly understand why my body fully rejected the Catholic faith my family wanted to bring me into growing up. If I could choose one book that all woman must read, it would be this one!

The author bases everything she says on a literal historical interpretation of Tanakh. Scholars have since proved that Moshe didn't exist. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were invented after the Platonic dialogs (most cogent here being the Republic and the Timaeus) the father of the 3 Abrahamic faiths individuated itself from the greater Helenistic world, severing its understanding of the origins of the chosen name of their monotheistic deity. Yaoh is Zeus and Jove. They kicked the can backwards in time, making it seem like patriarchy seized power in the distant past, this isn't the case. Read Brian Moresque's book, The Immortality Key to understand how recent and systematic the dominance of man is. Interestingly, since the worship of the Mother Goddess is timeless (or perhaps cyclical instead of linear), everything she argues that isn't dependent on "his"tory is on point. So much damage to humanity has been committed in the name of God, a new/old paradigm cannot come soon enough!

Its amazing how far academia has come in the last 50 years ...
